MC Championship is a series of livestreamed Minecraft tournaments created by Noxcrew and organized by Smajor1995. The event features 40 content creators facing off in 10 teams of 4, in various minigames intended to put a variety of in-game skills to the test.

The tournament series has gained a large fandom of people interested in doing sports-typical analysis alongside fanwork creators, with both being very positive with each other and recognized by players.

Fandom

The MCC fandom is vast and diverse, boasting more traditional fanworks as well as stat-based analysis of games, events, and players.

Common types of fanworks seen on the subreddit include discussion posts and meta analysis, placement and team predictions, Memes, polls, fanart and fanmade Minecraft Skins, among other forms of fanwork.

Fanfiction is common as well, with the freeform tag on Archive of Our Own having 573 works as of December 2023.[1] Visual fanart and animations are also very common in the fandom.

Meta fanworks for MCC tend to take various forms - text posts, infographics, videos, spreadsheets, and even whole fan sites such as ReafyStats. Before MCC 18, one fan hosted a multi-platform survey, the MCC18 Cross-Platform Survey.

Common forms of meta:

  • Team and placement predictions (Usually get dedicated threads stickied on the subreddit)
  • Discussions on server happenings, favorite players, and the like
  • Statistical simulations of events (either real or consisting entirely of fanmade teams)
  • Tier lists
  • Rankings
  • Statistical analysis
  • Infographics
  • Speculation on possible newcomers

Respect/Appreciation Posts

A particularly common type of meta fanwork on the MCC subreddit are appreciation/respect posts for individual players, whether based on technical skill in-game, humor, or teamwork abilities.

Participants in MCC frequently interact with fans, reacting to and praising fanworks, and posting on the fan-run subreddit. In general, the creator perception of the MCC fandom tends to be positive.

Also, please continue to make the memes you are for this event, cause I'm dying at them when I read through the Reddit! We know things went wrong, we are going to do our best to fix them, but in the mean time, lets laugh about it! Cause at the end of the day, the event is meant to be fun and bring people together! I've spoken with people on both the Blue Bats and the Purple Pandas, and no one is upset or angry, so don't get mad or send hate on peoples behalf, when they don't want it!

Hey all! KreekCraft here. As you're all probably aware, this is my first MCC Event. And since all of this was kind of a late gathering, I've spent the past day or so practicing and consuming as much MCC content as possible so I have a good grasp on everything going into this.

Just writing this post though because I found this subreddit and it's really cool to see such an energetic and positive crowd around an event like this. Obviously with such big names comes everyone inevitably upset that their favorites didn't win or be included in the event. All I've really seen here though is positivity and I've been reading a lot in order to get a better grasp on the event and the players.

So thanks for all the good vibes. Good luck to everyone's favorite creators. 🙏❤️

hi I’m Jojo and I wasn’t in MCC 26 and I won’t be in MCC 27 because… you know why.

I was very anxious about potential negative comments regarding my appearance and the inevitability of being sexualized for presenting as feminine. However, these worries faded when I finally displayed my fit to my stream. I received a lot of support for my self-expression from my stream chat and my MCC teammates, for which I am incredibly grateful. I've been building confidence over the years to express more of this side of myself to the public and I would say today was a mission success :D (Also had an amazing time in MCC Pride this year; SHOUTOUT to Noxcrew & Scott)

Players often use special team-themed skins which are usually created by pixel artists in the fandom.

Shitposting

While many of the creator posts on the subreddit are genuine positivity, a good portion of other posts fall under the category of shitposting, and are just nonsensical/humorous or stir the pot for commonly debated subjects among the fandom.

A particular form of shitposting common among creators is karma farming, where they post low effort posts with the intention of gaining large amounts of Reddit karma. Sapnap's post "i am the best" is the only post on the subreddit to have recieved the flair "shameless karma farm" from the subreddit's moderators as of December 2023.[2]

Memes

The MCC fandom has a large variety of memes and in-jokes, like any other big community online. These memes include:

  • Quig chains (comment threads where users just reply to each other with "Quig")[4]
  • ConnorEatsPants being the greatest player, as well as him sabotaging the S tier players
  • "Unpopular opinion, but I don't think _ is actually going to win" (a holdover from a tweet made by Pikaclicks about the three-person team of Technoblade, xNestorio and Cxlvxn in Minecraft Ultimate, another tournament series)
  • "Just killed a woman, feeling good!" (said by TommyInnit after killing Katherine Elizabeth in one event)
  • CaptainSparklez never winning a MCC despite being in every event (this is no longer the case as of MCC 22)
  • Joke tier lists
  • Posting every day until _ happens

Some fans aren't fond of the overuse of these memes, believing the spam of them to be obnoxious.
