Ethopedia was a fan-made, open-source website that allowed users to search EthosLab's Let's Play series, and later other videos, for specific phrases. The website worked by getting transcripts from the auto-generated subtitles on YouTube.
I always see comments on Etho's videos asking questions like "When did Etho do this??" or "When in the video did Etho say that? Timestamp???". Nobody deserves to miss out on the Etho content they crave, so I built ethopedia - A site that lets you search through all of Etho's LP videos. Just enter the word or phrase you are looking for and ethopedia will show you all of the times he said it. Clicking on a result will play the video and skip to the part where he says the search phrase.I used u/tanya3140's AMAZING fan art as the banner, hopefully that is ok. It's a perfect fit!!
A few quick notes:The site is powered by auto-generated subtitles which are far from perfect (especially for older videos where the audio quality is worse). This may throw off your search results!
The site does not update when Etho uploads a new video. Maybe I'll automate this process in the future...-- captchafree, Oct 2020 [1]
History
Ethopedia was first announced on Reddit on October 3rd 2020.[1]
The site was updated in November 2020 to have over 1800 videos total, filters, and a more accessible API.[2]
In November of 2023, Ethopedia was shut down due to events happening in the creator's life but that they intended to revive the project at some point in the future.[3] Under a reddit post by a fan about the site shutting down, captchafree expanded on their reasons for the site shutting down saying that they didn't think anybody would care and that they were very busy because of their job. They also elaborated on how they ran Ethopedia and their plans to change the infrastructure it had been on to reduce costs and make it faster.[4]

Etho fyi
Etho fyi (etho.fyi) is an unoffical succesor to Ethopedia created by binariumonline. It works the same as Ethopedia and was released when Ethopedia was pulled offline.[5] captchafree commented on the post saying that it was 'Awesome stuff!' [6] indicating that they endorsed the project. binariumonline also created a similar website for all members of Hermitcraft which is called Hermits fyi (hermits.fyi).[7]
