The MCYT community has been closely related with charity work since the early 2010s, with many campaigns led both by fans and content creators.

Events and Campaigns

Mindcrack member kurtjmac has raised over $460,000 for several charities through his Far Lands or Bust series.[1] Another former member of a 2010s MCYT group, JeromeASF of Team Crafted, organized a charity stream in 2020 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.[2] The Yogscast organize Jingle Jam yearly, and have been since 2014. They have collaborated with Noxcrew's MC Championship several times. The Jingle Jam events have raised a total of £2.7 million for charity as of 2023.[3]

Love Tropics is an annual 48-hour charity livestream event that has been running since 2017.[4]

Dream SMP organized a event with MrBeast and Team Seas in 2021, with the winner of the in-game event receiving the only Elytra on the server.[7] Ranboo's community has raised over $200,000 for multiple charities, including The Trevor Project, Project: Water, and the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice. Tubbo conducted a charity stream for St. Jude's that raised over $140,000.[8]

In 2023, QSMP fans would organize QSMP for Palestine, which would raise a total of $3,956 for the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.[10]

Hermitcraft community

Hermitcraft member GoodTimesWithScar streamed a Minecraft event on Twitch that raised its funding goal of $25,000 for Gamers Outreach before it even began.[11][12] LivestreamFail subscribers on Reddit discussed this:

They ended up making 429k and I’m so fucking proud of them. Love you, Scar!

Scar is one of the most wholesome people around. Dude got dealt a bad hand and he has made the most of it. Hermitcraft is also very unlike the rest of the Minecraft community. Very little drama, very family friendly community, has any personality you would really want.

Grian's viewers raised funds to help build a school in Ghana. Rendog's community has raised £80,000 for SOS Africa.[14] FalseSymmetry runs a recurring charity event for St. Jude's that raised $5,000 in 2021.[8]

Specific Causes

Cancer

Following Technoblade's diagnosis of and eventual passing from sarcoma, many fans and creators began to raise money for charities related to cancer research. MCYT versus Cancer was a community-organized campaign involving the moderation teams for several popular content creators that raised a total of $24,942 for cancer charities in 2022 and 2023.[15] Technoblade himself organized Minecrafters vs Cancer, a fundraiser that would eventually raise $119,420 in total.[16] Another fundraiser organized by Technoblade would surpass its goal of $300,000 in under four hours.[17] Voices for the Blade is a fandom-organized fundraiser on Tumblr.[18] The Festival of Voices was an in-game Minecraft event that fans could participate in to raise money alongside creators, organized by Technoblade's father MrTechnodad, in benefit of the One of Us Global Foundation. It raised $81,032.[19]

The Sarcoma Foundation of America posted a tribute page to Technoblade on their website, thanking him and his community for raising over a million dollars for the foundation.[20]

Docm77 also runs a recurring charity event for a German charity for young adults with cancer, raising $40,000 in 2019 and $38,000 in 2020.[8]

LGBTQ+

Another popular choice of charities to support is charities related to the LGBTQ+ community. The MCYT Coloring Book was a charity zine made by several artists in the community in support of The Trevor Project.[21] In June 2021, Dream raised $140,000 for The Trevor Project, but was heavily criticized for not doing more.[22]

MC Championship Pride runs yearly since 2021, raising money for The Trevor Project. The first event was in direct collaboration with YouTube Gaming. Over three events, a total of $515,022 has been raised.[23]
