Reddit is an extremely popular 'entertainment, social networking, and news website where registered community members can submit content, such as text posts or direct links'[1]. Content is organised into 'subreddits,' user-created sites with specific rules or guidelines for content. Content and comments can be 'upvoted' or 'downvoted' by registered users, allowing more popular posts increased visibility.

Content Policies

Although many subreddits enforce strict rules regarding hate speech and bullying, reddit as a while is not a 'safe space.' Harassment is absolutely disallowed and can be reported to both the moderators of a specific subreddit and the administration. See reddit's content policy and 'reddiquette' etiquette guidelines for specific rules.

YouTube user C.G.P. Grey has published a popular video further describing reddit's function and culture.

AMA

AMAs, or "Ask Me Anything" (also "AMAA" - Ask Me Almost/Absolutely Anything), are a popular thread format on Reddit. They are often used for guest and celebrity users, such as John Green, Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and Zachary Quinto. Any user on the website may post a comment or question for the AMA host to ask and respond to.
