/r/XFiles/ is an X-Files community on Reddit that focus mainly on The X-FIles, but also includes discussion and links about the other Carterverse shows (including The After). The subreddit was created in June 2010.[1]
As of March 2023 the communities has 86.0k members. This may make this community the current largest X-Files community on the internet.
History
The community started out as a subreddit for discussions about "Cover-Ups, Government Scandals, Alien Conspiracies. Here is the place to post them".[2] By May 30th 2011, the focus of the subreddit changed to X-Files related content which resulted in a steady increase of subscribers.
As of July 2012, with over 1,100 subscribers, the description was changed to
- "Welcome to Reddit's X-Files Community! This is a place for lovers of everything X-Files. Also, The Lone Gunmen and Millennium."
The description has remained like this ever since. Some additional links and episodes were listed over the years for group Viewing Party rewatches.[3]
As of October 28, 2017, 29.391 users were subscribed to the community. Spoilers for the new episodes (Season X and Season XI) had to be tagged as [[spoiler]], as well as adult content, and it was not allowed to submit links that have already been posted.
With the implementation of the new reddit design, which was finalized in spring of 2018, flairs have now to be added to every post. Before that, only spoiler-ish content had to be flagged.[4]. The subs current icon was designed by reddit user Canes-305.
