Ranboo is a Twitch streamer and YouTube content creator, with a focus on comedy and Minecraft. He is mainly known for his unique motifs, character lore, and part in Generation Loss and the Dream SMP run by Dream. In MCYT fandom, another part of his popularity is tied to his friendship dynamic with his in-game "husband," Tubbo_, although the two content creators stopped collaborating sometime in 2022.
Ranboo was born in the United States on November 2, 2003. He is gay and uses the pronouns they/he. He is very secretive about his real name and his face, and has yet to reveal what his full face actually looks like, similar to Dream. Among the content creators featured in the MCYT fandom, Ranboo is one of the only ones to go from 200 subscribers to 3 million in just over a year. Having begun streaming on Jan 30, 2020, he was invited to the Dream SMP on Nov 27, 2020, and by Aug 2021 he hit 3 million subscribers, as well as having broken a few Twitch records.[1]
On November 26, 2021 he has revealed his eyes on stream for the first time. After January 2022, he stopped wearing sunglasses almost entirely. He also has a VTuber model he regularly uses on Twitch.
Relationship with Fandom
Ranboo is not overly interactive with fans on Twitter, though he does occasionally retweet fanart, and his Twitter banner is a compilation of fanart. He has partaken in a fan Q&A with Tubbo,[2] but doesn't do anything similar to the some of the fan interactive streams TommyInnit occasionally hosts. He also doesn't host any joinable Minecraft servers, like the ones Wilbur Soot has made for gimmick streams. Most of Ranboo's interactivity comes from responding to his chat during streaming sessions.
On the SMP boundaries Tumblr, where lists of content creator statements on boundaries are upheld, Ranboo has stated he is okay with simping (likely referring to stan culture), is not comfortable with NSFW content but SFW fanfics were fine, and did not like x reader fanfics. He was uncomfortable and uncertain of certain romantic/platonic content of he and Tubbo though they were in-game married. The boundary page has not been updated since Dec 21, 2020, so his stance on art of he and Tubbo may have changed.[3]

Dream SMP
Ranboo's motifs are his black and white theme, the suit he wears, and being half enderman. He is often drawn as an enderman person, but fans will also give him horns and a tail, which enderman do not have. Themes of memory loss and disassociation are common due to his character's canon. He is most often depicted with Tubbo and TommyInnit, and sometimes with Dream. He and Tubbo have an adopted "child" together who is a baby zombie piglin they named Michael, so it's common to see Ranboo with his piglin son in art.
On Aug 23, 2021, the Minecraft tag on Archive of Our Own had 64,607 works. Of the characters listed Ranboo was the 9th most popular, with 15,622 fanfics tagged as including him, making up 24% of the Minecraft category. Of the relationships, Ranboo & Toby Smith | Tubbo were the 7th most popular, at 3,551 fanfics (5%).[4]
On July 13, 2024, the Minecraft tag on Archive of Our Own had grown to 108,954 works. Ranboo rose to the 7th placing in the characters list, with 27,103 fanfics tagged as including him. Ranboo & Toby Smith | Tubbo were still the 7th most popular relationship with 6,904 fanwork. Ranboo & TommyInnit however also made an appearance as the 10th most popular relationship tag with 5,636 fanworks.[4]
Ranboo is very popular with LGBTQ fans, based on an April 2021 poll he ran in his chat where out of 46,678 people 83% identified as LGBTQ.[5] He's also well known for his Minecraft character's "lore," and his lore streams are considered to be the most popular of the Dream SMP, gaining over 100,000 viewers at a time. This may be due to his unique character, which is dissimilar to the characters played by others of the Dream SMP, as well as his age appealing to a young audience (similar to TommyInnit and Tubbo).
Ranboo is included in a few non-romantic pairing names, listed below. The exception is that names for Ranboo and Tubbo_ do sometimes double as a ship name, but it depends on what the artist's intentions are.
