Origins SMP is a Minecraft survival multiplayer (SMP) server. It was founded by Tommyinnit on February 10th, 2021. It was inspired by the "Origins Mod" a mod for Minecraft that allows players to pick a non-human superpowered "origin" for their character, which imposes real penalties in gameplay or weaknesses (such as increased susceptibility to fire or water damage) as well as perks. Tommyinnit and Wilbursoot said that they found it interesting and wanted to play with the possibilities.

The server includes many members from the crowd that has done SBI, Dream SMP, and SMP Earth, such as Tommyinnit and Wilbursoot as well as Philza, Technoblade, Ranboo, Niki Nihachu, Jack Manifold, and Tubbo_ - though they often end up going a different direction in the new server with less political tension involved in the roleplay. Later Scott Smajor CaptainSparklez Jschlatt and Shubble join and are added. The overall thrust is in exploring the differences in gamplay caused by the mod, and later roleplaying as a small community of non human creatures trying to survive, heavily focusing on a sort of slice-of-life esque rp of their daily lives.

Early rambling "plots" include trolling between members, the attempts to build a central pub, called "The Pube" where they can all meet (despite some being sensitive to water, others unable to breathe without it, suffering under a roof, burns in direct sunlight, likes fire, etc.) and Ranboo and Niki discussing their different attitudes towards water, before Niki and Jack Manifold remotely helping eachother, despite the fact that she is a water breathing fish, and he is a fire creature trying to escape the hellish Minecraft dimension called the Nether.

In the first season they are still trying to find their feet, and there are also more deliberate "streamer persona" interruptions and discussions of the streamer's daily lives and comedy improv short skits, where by the third season (the most recent one) there is more in character roleplay and the Starborn are added as a part of the world, as well as subplots revolving around a fake superhero/supervillain ring and heists and fraud.

Has some overlap with Dream SMP and Hermitcraft fandoms. Generally small. As well as a presence on twitter, tumblr, and discord, there are ~ 850 fics on AO3.

Just as c!character name or dsmp!character name are used to show someone is talking about the Dream SMP version of a character and cc!Name for the content creator, O!character name or OSMP!character name are often used for the OSMP versions.
