Ethogirl is a name of the fandom of MCYT creator Ethoslab. Though it might be counterintuitive, you don't have to identify as a girl to be an Ethogirl and it is a gender-neutral term.
History
According to Tumblr user bellshazes, the origin of the term is a Tumblr post by megabuild.[1][2] The megabuild blog was deleted and then remade so the original post no longer exists, however the oldest surviving reblog is from 28 November 2021.[3] Megabuild also claims to have created the term.[4]

On 26 December 2021, some Etho fans created a Discord server and called the server and themselves "Ethog*rls".[6] The censorship of the name was based on the ban of certain words on Tumblr, with included the hashtag "#girl".[7][8] A member of the Discord server believes that the "Great Tumblr G*rl Censorship of 2021 seriously impacted the popularization of the term ethogirls".[9] Following the creation of the Discord server, members of the server made posts on Tumblr that referenced ethogirls and found an old clip where another youtuber calls himself an ethogirl in front of Etho,[10] which made the term more popular.

The Tumblr blog makeupanethogirl ("make up an ethogirl") also contributed to the early popularity of the term.

The history of ethogirl is not well known in the fandom, with some redditors in November 2023 guessing that it was created on Twitter[13] or falsely believing it was made up by BDoubleO100.[14][15] In March 2024, megabuild (the originator of the term) ran a Tumblr poll in which 48.6% of 389 respondents indicated that they knew the term but not its origin.[16]

The first time Etho heard the term seemed to be during the Hermitcraft Charity stream in 2022.[18]
Many creators self-identify as Ethogirls, for example BDoubleO100[19] who is widely agreed to be the #1 Ethogirl. It is believed that BDoubleO100 first talked about the term during an August 14, 2022 livestream,[20] saying he's willing to be an Ethogirl.
There is also a fanrun Ethogirl Tournament on Tumblr to determine which content creator is the biggest Ethogirl.
