Mindcrack was formed as a group of friends around a private Minecraft survival multiplayer (SMP) server that Guude started on October 19, 2010. Since then, the group has shifted its focus towards creating content for a variety of games (still including Minecraft) and holding events to raise funds for charity. The group currently has 23 members, including Guude, VintageBeef, KurtJMac, Coestar, PauseUnpause and Docm77. Several current and former members of the group are part of Hermitcraft.
Members of the Mindcrack group invented the Minecraft minigame UHC. This started off the Mindcrack UHC series, which spans over many seasons and years. The resulting YouTube videos and later Twitch streams are popular within the Mindcrack fandom.
Most members of Mindcrack who are active on the Minecraft server feature it in YouTube videos or Twitch streams. Gameplay on the Minecraft server is split into seasons, and with each new season the world is reset and moved to a brand new seed. Mindcrack season 10 started June 17, 2023.[1] In the present day, group collaboration is focused on Mindcrack Marathons, a yearly livestream marathon benefiting charity, usually Extra Life. Over its total lifetime Mindcrack has raised over $2,000,000 for Extra Life.[2] Nowadays, some Mindcrackers only rarely interact with the group and/or have generally stopped streaming and making videos. Others focus on variety streaming but still the join the charity events and play Minecraft during these events.[3]

Founding
Mindcrack is changing
"Mindcrack is changing" was the title of a blog post that announced the trademarking of Mindcrack as a brand and the departure of several members of the group on April 3, 2015. Notably, BDoubleO, Ethoslab and GenerikB parted ways with Mindcrack with this announcement.[4] Guude revealed that Ethoslab left only because he didn't want to sign a contract where his real name could potentially be discovered one day, while the other two left because of disagreements. Guude said the contract was a direct result of GenerikB and others breaking the law and was an attempt to stop them.[5]
This paved the way for the remaining group to focus more directly on charity and create events such as an in-person 48 hour livestream marathon benefiting Extra Life in November 2015.[6]
However, due to several popular members leaving the group all at once, fans often see the announcement as the start of the Mindcrack group declining in popularity.
