A duo name or group name is a collective name for two or more characters, typically in reference to platonic relationships rather than romantic.

The primary purpose of duo names is to be used in fanwork tags on websites such as Twitter and Tumblr to indicate that the relationship of the involved characters is important to the work. They are also used to provide fans an accessible means to search for fanworks about the pair or group. Duo names are often used alongside pairing names as a means of differentiating between platonic and romantic dynamics, though sometimes the two are used interchangeably for certain pairs and groups depending on the fandom.

Fandoms

Duo names are most commonly seen in MCYT fandoms, but are not exclusive to them—they are also present in other fandoms such as LEGO Monkie Kid and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

_Duo

These duo names are the most common, and are similar to the _Shipping format of ship names seen in fandoms like Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!. The word at the start of the name either relates to both characters or references a moment of their relationship in some way. For groups with more than two characters, _Trio and _Quartet names are also applicable.

Nonstandard Duo Names

Sometimes duo names are formatted differently. For example, in MCYT fandom, it is not uncommon to see "_boys" used instead of "_Duo" - Crimeboys being one example. Some other examples of nonstandard duo names include Endersmile, Funboo (a portmanteau chosen by the streamers themselves), and Bedrock Bros.
