Aphmau is a Youtuber. She is known as Jessica Bravura. She is typically known for creating roleplays with Minecraft. She also plays other games with her friends from time to time. Jess owns four YouTube channels: Aphmau, Aphmau Fantasy, Aphmau Shuki, and Aphmau Vlogging.
Series and Channels
Her main channel, Aphmau, is where Jess publishes most of her roleplay series, in addition to her occasional let's plays, Minecraft Minigames videos and reaction videos. Her most popular roleplays are Minecraft Diaries, which has 2 full seasons and one currently on hold, and MyStreet, which has a total of 9 seasons, including Phoenix Drop High and Falcon Claw University. Other popular series on this channel include MyCraft Family, Mod Mod World and Mermaid Tales.
The channel Aphmau Fantasy holds two roleplays: the third season of Minecraft Diaries, and Dreams of Estorra, which tells the story of a young teenage girl's adventures in a VRMMORPG of the same name. Both roleplays are unfortunately on hold until further notice.
Finally, Aphmau Vlogging is the channel on which Jess usually publishes updates about her ongoing series and her private life.
She has a multitude of voice actors under her payroll. Some of them include other Youtubers such as Princess Rizu, LucariosKlaw, TheDragonHat, and MegaMoeka. Other voice actors include Patrick Seymour, Anairis Quinones, Sebastian Todd, Michaela Laws, and her own husband, Jason Bravura. Jess also voice acts for Aphmau in all of her roleplays.
Minecraft Diaries
Minecraft Diaries is Aphmau's first big Minecraft roleplay series, and spawned her other series. It currently has 237 episodes and 3 seasons: The Rise of Phoenix Drop, The War of the Magi, and The Realm Protector. The third season was discontinued after 37 episodes, due to fan harassment and pressure [1], which caused Jess to take the writing of the series in a direction that she was not satisfied with.[2]
MyStreet
MyStreet is another one of Aphmau's Minecraft roleplay series, and one of the most popular. The series consists of 6 completed seasons, with a surprise season 7 teaser trailer released on June 28th, 2024, 5 years after the finale of Season 6, which was released on June 8th, 2019. The seasons, in order, are: MyStreet Season 1, MyStreet: Love~Love Paradise, MyStreet: Lover's Lane, MyStreet: Emerald Secret, MyStreet: Starlight, and MyStreet: One Last Time. MyStreet began primarily as a light-hearted slice of life-esque series, but later grew more serious. It seemed like a modern setting at first glance, but has always included some supernatural/fantastical elements. In recent seasons, the fantasy elements have become instrumental to the plot.
Phoenix Drop High
Phoenix Drop High is a prequel to MyStreet, and premiered a few days after the end of MyStreet Season 1. There are two main seasons and two mini seasons. The first season, Phoenix Drop High covers the high school days of the characters, while the second season, Falcon Claw University, covers the characters' lives during university. Graduation Days acts as a prequel for Falcon Claw University, and the final season, Phoenix Drop Days, is a spin-off to Phoenix Drop High which takes place in the first season of Phoenix Drop High, but with a new character cast.
My Inner Demons
My Inner Demons is a 26 episode Minecraft roleplay series produced by CatFace. It premiered on June 29th, 2019 and finished November 16th, 2019.
Mod Mod World
Void Paradox
Dreams of Estorra
Dreams of Estorra is a Minecraft roleplay series produced by CatFace. It was put on hiatus due to low view count and subscriber demand.
Fandom
The three canonical fandoms for Aphmau on AO3 are Minecraft Diaries - Aphmau (Web Series), MyStreet - Aphmau (Web Series), and My Inner Demons - Aphmau (Web Series). Fans are particularly interested in writing about Minecraft Diaries and MyStreet, sometimes writing crossovers between both series. Fans have also written crossovers between Aphmau's roleplays and other Minecraft roleplays, such as the Dream SMP.
Shipping
Despite Aarmau being canon, old Aphmau fans who were in the fandom when Minecraft Diaries was airing indicate that Aarmau was not originally the most popular ship.[3] Instead, in the early days of Minecraft Diaries, the two most popular ships were Garmau (Garroth/Aphmau) and Laurmau (Laurance/Aphmau). This led to a massive shipping war between these two factions of the fandom.[4] Some fans also ship Garrancemau (Garroth/Laurance/Aphmau) as a poly relationship.[5] [6]
Controversy and Criticism
Aphmau has been a part of a lot of controversy, and weathered a lot of criticism from fans, in terms of both her content and her choices as an employer and content creator. Some of her allegations include: queerbaiting, fetishization of same-sex relationships, racist stereotyping of Japanese people, mistreatment of her voice actors and animation studio employees, incest, and supporting romantic relationships between adults and minors.[7] [8]
Criticism has also been leveled at Jess's husband, Jason, who plays Aaron Lycan in MyStreet and Aaron, the former Lord of Falconclaw in Minecraft Diaries. Fans dislike the 4 year age gap between Aphmau and Aaron in canon, especially when their relationship develops in high school, when Aphmau is a freshman and Aaron is a senior. Fans have also questioned what it means that Jess and Jason also have a four year age gap in real life, and that Jess has stated that Aaron and Aphmau's relationship is based on her own relationship with Jason (citation needed). Particularly, some accusations of Aaron grooming Aphmau, or Jason grooming Jess, have been thrown around by fans.
