Passerine is a gen Dream SMP Royalty AU fanfic written by blujamas that was posted on Archive of Our Own between January and April 2021. It focuses on Found Family, drama, and war, and stars Technoblade, Philza, TommyInnit, and Wilbur Soot. As of Oct 2023, it has over 3 million hits and 87,000 kudos. It is currently the third most popular fic on AO3 and has been translated into Deutsch, Suomi, Čeština, and Português brasileiro.
A year after Passerine was first posted, blujamas began posting sequels for the fic. First, a prequel fic called shrike which is focused on George, Sapnap, and Dream who are gods in the Passerine universe and later two sequels called morning dove and mockingbird.
The fic was also discussed widely after it disappeared from AO3 for a day, and it was eventually revealed that this was the result of the fic being added to an unrevealed collection.

Disappearance via Unrevealed Collection
On October 8, 2021, Passerine was unexpectedly hidden from AO3. The author tweeted on October 8th about the fic having disappeared, and tweeted again later the same day saying it had been resolved.

OKAY ITS BACK??? idk what happened i just got a notif that it was "unrevealed" idk what that meant lol [2]
Fans noticed the fic had gone missing immediately.
somewhere between 2pm and 11pm today, passerine seems to have been deleted, huh [3]

Twitter user @four_ofcups claimed responsibility for the fic being hidden.

On October 12, the author thcscus and four_ofcups briefly exchanged. thcscus expressed disappointment and says the situation could have been resolved privately. four_ofcups said they found the situation funny and didn't understand "why everyone's being so weird [about] it."
uh huh. if you had such a big problem with it though, you could have dmed me. sorry if you did and i missed it, but literally there was no reason to do this. its such a small issue, genuinely took seconds for me to correct, so i have no clue why you would take these lengths /nm
because it was funny lol. its not like i did anything super major either. i unrevealed it for two hours to see if i could and literally had a timer set to release it bc i didnt want to actually be a dick abt it. i genuinely dont know why everyone’s being so weird abt it.[7]

Other fans described the event in Tumblr asks and referenced the scenario as a reason for authors to be careful when choosing to accept their works into collections. Passerine's situation might have influenced why so many fans were wary of the feature and cited how it could be used as a vector for harrassment.
What happened? Well. Simply put: Passerine got added to a collection and the owner must have set that collection to unrevealed before fixing it. [9]
oh yeah, passerine being as wildly popular as it was has been added to a lot of fic collections. however, adding a fic to a collection means that the owner of the collection can choose to hide the collection itself, and any fics within that collection will be hidden as well. one of the collections that had passerine in it did just that, but it got fixed pretty quickly [10]
And some fans made jokes referencing the scenario, and how Wilbur Soot had published a Dream SMP-related work to AO3.
Someone should add Wilburs ao3 fic to a collection, get accepted, and private it/remove from search like someone did to passerine.[11]
