The MCYT Recursive Exchange is a gift exchange in the MCYT fandom, focusing on Recursive Fanworks. All gifts in this exchange are required to be about a requested fanwork from the MCYT fandom, and only a fanwork where the author has given fanwork permission, via a Blanket or other public statement.[3] Participants were required to join a Discord server for communication.
The fandom this set of events includes is MCYT fandoms as a whole, and "OR" matching is used. A nomination period ran where participants nominated fanworks they wanted to see recursed. This was used to create the tagset for the exchange.
Seventy-seven people signed up, and the collection closed on April 13 with 187 works. Only one gift was required per participant, but many made treats.

The original work was created as part of the Extreme Timed Challenge Gift Exchange, another Medusa-run exchange. In her request for the Recursive exchange, Medusa wrote:
This fic was written during the 48 hour exchange, I happen to know, and all of us emerged from the google document blinking at the sun and we sat down to read this fic that everyone was talking about and the effect was approximately the same as being hit in the head with a tire iron. But the tire iron is coated with laughing gas. Is this comparison sensible? it's 10:30 at night. I Trust That You Know. This is a VERY funny fic.
