This category lists articles that have been featured on Fanlore's social media, categorised by theme.

Besides our weekly Featured Articles, the Fanlore Social Media & Outreach team regularly shares other Fanlore articles on our Tumblr, Twitter and Bluesky to encourage fans to visit those pages, discuss them and potentially even add to them. These regular article features usually fall into themed tag categories like Ship Sunday or Meta Monday or are shared as part of our themed months such as Fandom in Color and Femslash February. We also share articles that need expansion under our Adopt a Page feature, to encourage fans interested in particular pages to begin contributing to Fanlore.

Currently, we use the following regular themed features:

  • Adopt a Page: for pages that need a lot of work, and could use "adopting" by one or more editors to flesh them out — any type of page is eligible for this feature as long as it needs significant work. Effective features could include pages relating to popular fandoms, newly-released media or events that don’t have much of an active editor base in those fandoms.
  • Ship Sunday: for ship pages of any kind, both pairings and moresomes.
  • Meta Monday: for all kinds of meta essays, both fandom-specific and pan-fandom.
  • Platonic Tuesday: for relationship pages that aren’t romantic, such as familial relationships and friendships.
  • Wank Wednesday: for kerfuffles, contentious discussions and notorious incidents of any kind. Anything that generated controversy qualifies for Wank Wednesday, though we avoid featuring fans in this category.
  • Terminology Thursday: for fandom terms or concepts that might need explaining or provoke discussion. Can be pan-fandom or specific to a particular fandom.
  • Fanwork Friday: for all types of fanworks. We feature a variety of fanwork types, from fanfic and fanvids to podfic, zines and doujinshi.

Every year, we also run themed months focused on a specific area of fandom. Currently, these are:

  • Femslash February: for pages relating to femslash, including ships, characters, meta and communities.
  • Fandom in Color in July: articles related to fans and characters of color, and race and fandom-related meta, communities and activism.

We also run one-off themed months in May and October which change every year.

Suggest a Social Media Feature

We welcome suggestions for pages you would like to see spotlighted on our social media accounts.

Good pages to suggest for a social media feature are often topics that many fans will be broadly familiar with, and have enough information on the page to be of interest, though you should consider nominating thorough, well-written and up-to-date pages as Featured Articles instead! Feel free to browse this category and its subcategories for examples of the types of pages we post, or scroll through our Tumblr, Twitter and Bluesky to look at our previous posts.

Leaving a suggestion does not guarantee that the page will be featured on Fanlore’s social media accounts — not all suggested pages are on topics that we can easily write a post or create a graphic for. Any page the team decides to feature may also not be published for a while, as we have a queue of future posts and themed months to work around.

How to make a suggestion

If you have suggestions for pages you would like us to feature, please first check whether the article is in one of the social media feature categories — these are articles we have already featured. If a page hasn’t been featured before, you can suggest it by commenting on the Category Talk page or sending it to the #questions-and-suggestions channel on our Discord server.

When you make a suggestion, please include the name of the page and the type of feature (e.g. Adopt a Page, Fanwork Friday).
