Priest is the pseudonym of a Chinese author whose works are published online. She has been called "one of the top five writers of works [of Chinese online literature] catering to female readers."[1]

She has published web novels in several genres, including danmei, wuxia, and science fiction.

Works

Priest has written a lot of novels and a handful of short stories. Some of her works that are popular in fandom include:

Locked on JJWXC

Her web novels were serialized on Jinjiang Literature City. On or before September 30, 2021, three of Priest's novels were locked. A fan on twitter shared Priest's social media post and explained that "she was required to lock and edit a few of her novels (tyk, zhenhun, spl) that became very influential due to their aired and to-air drama adaptations"[2]. Fans speculated that homophobia was a factor because the novel Legend of Fei was adapted from (featuring an m/f couple) did not receive the same treatment.

It's possible that the Chinese government was worried about the television adaptation causing too many people to want to read the original novel and getting introduced to danmei. One fail_fandomanon commenter noted, "It makes sense to me that they would want SPL censored in advance. Once SPL airs, viewers will want to check out the novel it's based on. So censors want it de-gayed before that happens."[3]

In June 2022, Sha Po Lang was unlocked after Priest made additional edits, "to tone down the BL content" according to redditors.[4] A fan on twitter posted a translation of the new material.[5]
