Miles Morales is the alter ego of Spider-Man from the Marvel Ultimates universe. He also appears as a member of The Champions and is the protagonist of the animated "Spider-Verse" trilogy of films consisting of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (scheduled for 2024).

Ultimate Spider-Man

Miles Morales was initially introduced in the Marvel comics Ultimate Universe. Like Peter Parker, Miles was bitten by a radioactive spider, and given spider-like powers similar to Peter's. After the Ultimate version of Peter Parker was killed by Norman Osborne, Miles took on the mantle of Spider-Man in his stead.

Marvel 616 Universe

The Ultimate Universe was destroyed along with the rest of the Multiverse in the Secret Wars event. However, as thanks for his assistance in the fight, Molecule Man transferred Miles and his entire family and friends to the Prime Marvel Universe. Miles is the only one of his family who remembers the Ultimate Universe.

Since arriving in the 616 Universe, Miles has been a member of the teen superhero team The Champions, and played a large part in almost every line-wide Event series.

In the animated 'Spider-Verse' trilogy, Miles is a teenager attending an exclusive prep school who is bitten by a radioactive spider and develops spider-like. Producers Lord and Miller described the character as unique among Spider-Men because of his Brooklyn upbringing, half-Puerto Rican and half-African-American background, and the fact that his family is still alive, with that family dynamic being central to the film's story.

Common Tropes, Fanon & Themes

  • Mentor Fic: Bonding with father/adult figures, such as his actual father or Peter Parker (in Into the Spider-Verse universe)
  • Transgender Character: Trans!Characters are quite popular within Miles’ pairings with both Gwen and Miguel (Trans!Gwen, Trans!Miles and, to a lesser extent, Trans!Miguel).
