The Sandman is a series of graphic novels by Neil Gaiman, published by DC Comics's Vertigo imprint.
The series focuses Dream, the titular Sandman and one of the seven "Endless", a group of being which also includes Death, Destruction, Desire, Destiny, Despair, and Delirium/Delight.
The comic Lucifer is a spin-off from the Sandman universe which was also adapted in a TV show of the same name, although the appearances of most of the main characters were changed from the comic book.
Fandom
Sandman fic is notable for a large number of crossovers. On AO3, of the 800+ works, 550+ are crossovers. Especially the characters Dream and his sisters Death and Delirium became fan faves and can are often subjects to cosplay.
