List of Fan-fiction Kinks, Tropes, and Clichés was created in 2006 by Anna S. It contains 388 items. It has inspired various challenges and is cited in kink memes as a reference.

Anna S says:

"Kinks" is used here as a broad term that includes emotional, plot-related, and sexual kinks. I could go into detail about why I think these often combine together to heighten one's response to a story, but I think it might be self-evident so I'll err on the side of sparing you. Clichés are things I generally feel positively about, but you're welcome to use items on this list as negative examples or squicks." Feel free to take this list and make it your own. You don't need to attribute it to me. You can copy and post it in your LJ or on your Web site, rewrite and add to it, quote it, link to it, or cite it in your thesis. Anything. Really. Fly, little kink list, be free.[1]

Some Fan Comments

[kassrachel]: Wow. That's an amazing list. Skimming it, I found some terms caught my eye because they aren't kinks for me -- and other terms caught my eye because they deeply are.

[julian black]: Fascinating list--there's things on there that I haven't yet seen in fanfic, and given how many eyebrow-raising paraphilias I've seen in my own fandom, that frightens me. [laughs]

[sophia helix]:

a) *is in awe*

b) You should offer these up as a kink-a-thon -- sign up, get one randomly, write fic with Anna's favorite characters!

c) This makes me realize why I often feel out of step with fandom, especially slash fandom; I have so few kinks. Not that I have a lot of squicks either, but I feel like I'm lacking a common ground with people. :(

[cathexys]: what an amazing list!!! some of them made me go huh? but so many do hit me just the right way!!! and i like the way you have both acts and plots and characterizations in there, b/c all of these can work for people!!!

[raqs]:

wow. i've seen less thorough categorizations on professional porn portals. (say THAT five times fast.) i too long for stories to go with many of these kinks, not 'cause they're kinks of mine, but just because it'd be keen. perhaps thorough.

and the "woke up gay" near the end just makes me smile.

[jollelaide]:

Dude!!!!!!!!!!! Here it is, and boy howdy, it's comprehensive. And an, um, interesting read. Heh.

I appreciate how non-judgmental and inclusive your list is-- it's a real measure of your evenhandedness that my squicks and my kinks read the same, in terms of tone.

[ely jan]:

This is amazing! Definitely a bookmarked page...um, for research, of course!

Amazingly comprehensive!

[lcmonz]: Really cool, and I am totally not making a censored version of this for a spin-the-wheel challenge! wink wink :D

Meta Fiction Written in Response

The genesis of this story is a little weird; there was a comm on LJ called kinkfreezone, where people were supposed to post only kink-free fic. They used a list of kinks taken from elsewhere (eliade's list of kinks and cliches, originally generated for a very different purpose) as a basis from which to make their own list of kinks that were disallowed on the comm. After news of this comm got around and people critiqued/made fun of it, the mod deleted it. But it might help, in order to make sense of this story, to have a copy of the comm's DON'T list handy, so I've uploaded an html file of the DON'T list that I saved, and you can download it here,[dead link] from megaupload.

So basically this story is a combination of sex comedy, meta on kinkiness, and srs bzns political protest.

Throughout the story, Kirk and Spock certainly adhere to the rules of the kinkfreezone comm. The story itself, however, does not. There are various kinks within, from bondage to D/s to bloodplay, but all sex is between consenting adults. Presuming that you consider Kirk to be an adult.
