Rhiannon's Eyrie was the personal fanfiction and recommendation site of Rhiannon Shaw. It was originally hosted by Tripod but moved a few times. It was a member of the Duncan Methos Slash Ring.

The site featured Highlander fanfiction with a strong focus on an original character and some regular Highlander stories. There also were several Highlander/X-Files crossovers. Description from the D/M Webring:

Welcome to the Eyrie, where Highlander is still going strong. Methos and Duncan are still teasing each other and arguing over beercaps behind the refrigerator, Rich isn't dead, and vampires show up on an all too regular basis. LaCroix and Nick Knight come by at night, and Aidan Logan lives here. Come on in!

Arrivals, Introductions, and Interactions

Aidan's Arc & Universe

These stories follow common characters, some original, most familiar from Highlander: the Series. They occur chronologically in the order listed below. You do not have to read each story to follow the others -- but on the other hand it might help. They're first stories in Aidan's arc and universe. I hope you enjoy the stories, and the people.
Dramatis Personae: Not actually a story. This is the comprehensive list of characters, both original and R:P/D, showing up through my various stories in Aidan's universe. Gives brief descriptions, stories in which characters appear/are mentioned, and the first episode they were seen in if they're from the Series. (Posted 2/15/00.) Yes, this really will be updated eventually to bring it up to date through Currents, et al. Rhi -
Hold Fast: rated R for implied f/f sex (2 ofc's). As close to angst as I want to get. What can go wrong if your lover doesn't know you're immortal?

Absent Companions: rated PG-13for discussions of violence and a fight. Nothing in this that couldn't have gone on one of the episodes. An immortal friend of Connor's wanders through Seacouver, and this one may stay.
       Part two
Quarrels of All Kinds: rated NC-17 for m/f sex (Methos/ofc),violence & gore. A study in the methods of stalking immortals, and their drawbacks.
       Part two
       Part three
       Part four
Letters on a Page: rated R for mild language, innuendo.

Shadow Plays: rated R for violence and implied m/f sex (ofc/LaCroix of Forever Knight) with some serious kinks. Crossover with Forever Knight. Vampires, immortals, and blood -- oh, my.
       Part two
Dancing Days: rated RAmanda's here, I'm supposed to rate it at PG-13? Are you kidding? It all started with a security system....

First Harvests: rated NC-17 for m/f sex (Ducan/ofc), strongly implied m/m sex (Duncan/Methos), and a challenge issued by a fugitive from the Fashion Police! Clan Denial, come on in, you're in the right place!
       Part 2

The Line War

Prelude To The Storm: rated NC-17 for m/m sex (Duncan/Methos) and for discussions about rape. What exactly do the Watcher researchers do after hours? And how do you seduce a 5000 year old man, anyway? Especially if you've never seduced a man before?
       part two
Nosferateu:rated R for m/m relationships, some fooling around. Now open! Home of good jazz, fine wine, intriguing liqueurs, and unique blood types. (Crossover with Forever Knight.)
When First We Practice: rated PG-13. Not even the mobile disaster zone (Amanda) managed to make this one R rated. Learn how to break and enter without it being theft! Clan Denial, come on in -- the water's a balmy 90 degrees or so, and Rich's doing handstands.
The Gathering Darkness: Rated NC-17 for m/m/f sex (Duncan/Methos/Aidan) and intrigues in process. Three strong-minded immortals trying to work out a relationship. Kyra's here, too. (You remember Kyra, right? Tall, blond, excessive amnesia for awhile, and some interesting opinions on 'swords' from Season 6's "Patient #7"?) Enjoy!
       part two
Explanations: rated NC-17 for m/f/m sex (Duncan/Methos/Aidan), for violence, and for BDSM (bondage, dominance, submission, mild masochism). In which questions are answered, and more questions arise, and more answers are demanded....(Posted 12/6/98)
       part two
       part three
Crystalline Patterns: rated R for implied m/m sex, for implied m/f/m sex, and for more silliness than any one author should have to put up with! Come see the Tuxedo Wars (no TM), the Ice Skating Incidents, the Ambush at Wrapping Central. This is what happens when a story thumbs its non-existent nose muttering in a bad Mexican accent about 'Plot? We don' need no stinkin' plot!' Come on in, if you're in the mood for frivolity! (Posted 12/25/98)
       part two
       part three

Part of me strongly suspects I should be ashamed of myself for this next one, but oh, well, life is short....

Intermission: rated S for rampaging silliness. This one makes the Christmas party look staid, sober, and respectable.... (Posted 3/23/99)

Right. Back at the line war, we have....

Intermezzo: rated PG-13 for implied relationships. In which all the plot lines which should have been in Crystalline Patterns finally show up. Plus two birthday parties, some Christmas presents, and a few odd characters. Dirty tricks are us. (Posted 5/1/99)
       part two
       part three
Poaching: rated R for strongly implied sex, both m/f & m/m, and for the aftermath of physical & emotional abuse. Being a treatise on the care and feeding of new immortals.... (Posted 5/1/99)
       part two
       part three
       part four
'Oops' Is A Four-Letter Word: rated R for m/m relationships. Mischief, havoc, and misinformation come home to roost.... Have fun, I did! (posted 11/00, I think?)
Sirocco: rated NC-17. Faith, loyalty, friendship, honor...and hatred, jealousy, envy, desire. War and love, torture and healing. Everything I never wanted to write and a few things I didn't know I could write.
Be advised -- the rating is for explicit sex, both slash and het, torture, rape, and all sorts of things I don't usually write.
   Final parts posted 6/26/00
Since this story is arranged by date, you can either go to the individual pages of the story, or you can go to the first entry for a specific date.
Curents: rated R for ugliness of spirit, odd though that may sound. This is Connor's take on the double quickening. (posted 3/24/01)
Stormwrack, Driftwood, and Fallen Leaves: Snippets from Sirocco. Rated G to NC-17. These are the tidbits and pruned pieces, in date order, from Sirocco, everything that didn't quite work for the story in that POV, or slowed it down too much, or just didn't quite cut it, somehow. (shrug) And at that, I'm sure there should be more of these, but I don't know where they went. More will be done over the summer as I play with scenes I wish I could have fit into the story. First posted 5/5; updated again on 7/11; updated a 3rd time on 12/4/00. More updates to come.
Line War Rules: Just what it says. (Posted 5/1/99)
Scorecard: Unrated. Can't track the players in the line war? Head this way. A comprehensive dramatis personae will be out later. (Posted 1/5/00)

Aftermaths

Second Rate Thief, by Alice in Stonyland: Rated PG-13. Amanda doesn't like being ignored or forgotten.... Especially during things like, oh, line wars? (posted by Alice on 8/11, posted over here 8/25)
In the Aftermath, by Alice in Stonyland: Rated PG. Rich's mood and contemplations after Sirocco.
Waking Up and Looking Back, by Mz. Lizzy. Rated PG-13. The follow-up to In the Aftermath, with Rich somewhere in Texas.
Signs & Portents, by Alyss: Rated PG-13. One result of the events of Sirocco. This one, by the way, is more an X-File than a Highlander piece, but I'm reliably informed that it makes sense even if you aren't familiar with X-Files. Enjoy! (posted 8/25/00)
Do I Get the Job? by Mz. Lizzy. Rated PG-13. Follows Waking Up and Looking Back, and it's just plain fun! (posted 6/13/01)
Stained Glass: Rated R, so far, for strongly implied m/m polyamory. *Be warned*: WIP. No complaints accepted. More of the fall-out from the Line War: Aidan, this time. (posted 3/24/01)
Marc Scipio's journal, undated. Rated PG. Speculation on differences, or lack thereof, between mortals and immortals, by a new student. (posted 3/30/03)

The X Side of the Force

Stories in Aidan's universe

Apology Snippet: Rated PG-13. This will get us all into trouble, soon enough. <g> Enjoy. (Posted 10/17/01)

Non-Aidan stories:

In the Eye of the Storm, by Alyss: rated NC-17 for m/m sex (Mulder/Adam) An Highlander/X-Files crossover. Two men, one hurricane, one night from Mulder's point of view. You'll like it. The original. (Posted 1/22/99)
Alyss' other X-Fiction can be found either at the Wolf's Lair, or at her own site, Wolfshaven.
Stillpoint: rated NC-17 for m/m sex (Methos/Mulder) Also an AU Highlander/X-Files crossover -- told from Methos' POV this time. Same guys, same hurricane, same night, the other side of the events.... I think you'll like this one, too. (Posted 1/22/99)
I Can See Now: rated PG-13 for implied violence. An alternate X Files universe, a few years down the line. A possible end game for the invasion. (Posted 3/23/99)
Random Access Memory: rated PG-13, but it's all implied. Because sometimes physical torture would be kinder.... (Posted 6/3/99)

Challenge stories!! Too many of 'em, honestly, but hey, enjoy!!

Stalking Shadows: rated R for strongly implied pre-slash and for discussions on serial killers, was written by Alyssfor the same Lyric Wheel. This thing makes me want to drag out my old jazz albums. (HL/XF)
Neap Tide: rated R, although that's probably a bit extreme. My take on Mulder, Krycek, and why the aliens might decide some other property would be more amenable than earth.... (posted 8/3/00) (XF)
   Time & Tide, part 3
Balance Point: rated R for implied slash. A different look at what might happen when the war is over. (posted 11/2/00) (XF)
First in the "I Don't Care" Wheel pieces
Needs Must: rated PG-13. What if Alex was running guns while he was in Hong Kong? And what if one of his customers was immortal? (posted 11/2/00) (XF/HL)
Second in the "I Don't Care" pieces
   Time & Tide, part 1
Conclusions: rated PG-13, although it gets rough at the end. Be warned. A missing scene from "Amor Fati". (posted 12/4/00)
Third in the "I Don't Care" pieces
One more to come in this sequence: "Moving"
Etudes in a Minor Key: rated PG-13, for squick, honestly. They wanted me to think like the villains. Surprise. Set in the same universe as Needs Must, apparently. (XF/HL) (posted 1/27/01)
   Time & Tide, part 2
Prices and Chances: rated R for language. Written for the Undercover Lyric Wheel, and set in the same universe as Breathless & Solidarity by Sleeps With Coyotes, with her permission. (posted 5/9/01)
Dark Nights & Souls: rated R for disturbing content. A differnent take on what happened in The Red & The Black. Written for the X-Files Lyric Wheel. (posted 8/31/01)
Doppelganger: rated PG on general principles, as it's an X-File. Written for the XF Word Wheel, with much profanity and many false starts. Now that it's done, I sort of like it. <g> (XF/HL) (posted 11/22/01)

Simple Things: rated PG, simply because Fitz insisted. Written for the XF Glad Wheel (yes, I know, I put FitzCairn and XF in one sentence <g>). Enjoy! (XF/HL) (posted 3/1/02)
Homecoming: rated PG-13, for some very mild slashiness and language. Written for the XF Endings Wheel. (Technically, XF/HL, but mostly XF) (posted 5/8/02)
Our Stranger: rated G. Written for the XF Red Shirt Wheel. (XF) (posted 8/22/02)
We, The Living: unrated, probably PG verging on R. Written for the Red Shirt Wheel, also. No sex, implied violence, among other things. (XF) (posted 8/22/02)
Symbols, rated PG. Written for the Transports of Love XF Lyric wheel. New car comparisons. You'll see. (posted 3/30/03)

Pinstriped, rated R. Written for the Literary Lyric Wheel and never linked. Odd and unusual curses and the Gunmen.... (posted 3/30/03)

Three of these have turned into a series, which amuses me, since they were written for different challenges. Oh, well:
The Time & Tide series, in sequence:
   Needs Must
   Etudes in a Minor Key
   Neap Tide

One more to come, I think, although I don't know if it'll be from a challenge or not.

Exodus 22:18 -- ResFic, and an AU of Sleeps with Coyotes' superb Everything Dies series. It's technically an XF/HL crossover, but it's always seemed more a Files piece than Highlander.... Rated NC-17. Be thou warned!! (posted 7/17/01)

Free Standing Stories

Aidan's Arc & Universe

Force of Habit: rated R for implied violence, torture, non-consensual sex. Darius wasn't always a priest, and his relationships with other Immortals haven't always been friendly. (Crossover with Forever Knight.) (Posted 11/15/98)
Split Hide: rated R for fencing & full frontal nudity. Even immortals get vacations, right? Although Connor still denies this ever happened. Yeah, right.... (Posted 2/13/99)
Never Swear on the Lady's Honor, by Alice in Stonyland: rated NC-17. Set sometime after Sirocco. No summaries needed: this one is just fun. (posted by Ali 2/?/01; posted over here 2/24/01. I'm late again, you see.....)
Desolation: No rating. Standing under the pouring onslaught of memories and lives, far down the falling days from the line-war sequence above. It's nothing like I usually write. You have been warned.
Favors: rated NC-17 for implied violence, torture, non-consensual sex, extremely consensual sex (D/M/Aidan).An old enemy comes through town... and he's not after Aidan's head, exactly. Of course, she may not get to fight him, either. (Posted 9/15/99)
...Greatly Exaggerated: rated PG-13, no worse than any episode on TV. After much practice, I brought back Kastagir, rather than Kronos. (posted 10/2/01)
Miscellaneous Snippets: rated PG-13 at the moment. Currently up, one about Stormy and Damien. Should eventually be part of a story of its own, but at the moment, enjoy! (posted 10/17/01)
Law of Averages, rated R. An AU of my usual Aidanverse, and this is not my usual Methos or Joe. Well. Not facets they usually show, anyway. Becauese it's not just the immortals they have to worry about. (posted 3/30/01)

Stories in other HL universes (not Aidan fic <g>.

Forces: rated R for mild profanity. It all showed up because I was wondering how Brian Cullen got addicted to booze and drugs.... (posted 1/5/00)

Drugs Are For Vampires Who Can't Handle Reality: rated PG-13, for nothing worse than you'd see on Buffy the Vampire Slayer or just about any Highlander episode. An immortal with priorities and a vampire with an IQ-deficiency... (posted 1/12/01)
One Clear Morning, by Rhiannon Shaw and Alice in Stonyland: rated R for m/f interaction. Deals with some of the events in between the end of the first movie and the start of the series. (posted 1/12/01)
A Deadly Virtue: rated NC-17 for implied torture, non-consensual sex, extremely consensual sex (D/M).
"I dislike death, but there are things I dislike more than death. Therefore, there are occasions when I will not avoid danger." When is a fight someone else's problem? And when is it yours to pick up? (Posted 9/15/99) First published in Futures Without End 2

Series

Stories in other HL universes (not Aidan fic <g>):

Horton's Legacy:

Handled with a Chain: rated NC-17 for darkness of the soul. Written for the Lyric Wheel, and yes, I most certainly did disinfect my mind after I wrote this. What do you take me for? On second thought? Don't answer that, please. (Posted 11/2/99)
Shards & Links, sequel to Handled with a Chain: rated PG-13.Written because Killa wanted more Joe fic, and bless her for wanting me to do something to clean out my soul.... (posted 12/27/00)

Southern Comfort: The first two volleys in the Innuendo Wars, although the next Innuendo piece will not be a DM/Matthew story.

Reflections: rated NC-17 for m/m sex (DM/Matthew McCormick). Duncan's trying to sort out his own emotions and reactions after Rich's death, and runs into Matthew McCormick. First published in Wounded Heroes. Round one of the Innuendo Wars. (posted 7/10/00)
Form and Substance: rated NC-17 for m/m sex (DM/Matthew McCormick). I give up; it's a series. Duncan's second encounter with Matthew leads both of them to wonder what they want, and from whom. Round two of Innuendo Wars. (posted 3/24/01, despite Tripod)

Time and Tides: (X-Files, primarily, but it crosses over with Highlander)

Needs Must: rated PG-13. What if Alex was running guns while he was in Hong Kong? And what if one of his customers was immortal? (posted 11/2/00) (XF/HL)
Etudes in a Minor Key: rated R on general principles. Written for the X-Files Lyric Wheel, the Villains' Turn. This one was...strange. (XF/HL) (posted 1/20/01)
Neap Tide: rated R, although that's probably a bit extreme. My take on Mulder, Krycek, and why the aliens might decide some other property would be more amenable than earth.... (posted 8/3/00) (XF)

Kronos Fic

Kronos Fic and other messes Sleeps with Coyotes has gotten me into....

Stories in other HL universes (not Aidan fic <g>):

Reunions: rated R for implied slash Written for Coyote's Resurrection fic challenge, and because now she owes me a virgin!Connor fic.... (posted 11/2/00) (HL/BtVS, and I don't believe I just typed that....)
The Old Gods Rise: rated R on general principles. Another ResFic for Coyote. I swear, these things are like eating Pringles.... (posted 4/01)

Imaginings & Incantations: rated R for strong... intentions, shall we say? D/M first time, written because, well, Coyote and I both had a song we wanted to use for a fic.... When she writes hers, I'll link to it. This is not linked to any of my other ongoing series, by the bye. (g) (posted 8/3/00)
the Alternate Universe that's eating my mind:
Plus Ça Change: Rated NC-17, for sex, violence, mindcontrol, and all sorts of other squick. Nothing here happened the way the Series had it. What if the Kurgan missed one or two of the immortals in the first movie, and took the heads of one or two who were in the series? What if Voice is real, and it's not just Cassandra who has it? Now. What if Methos never met Alexa before Kronos came back?
   WIP -- you're warned. Rhi
X-Files fic set in her universes....
Prices and Chances: rated R for language. Written for the Undercover Lyric Wheel, and set in the same universe as Breathless & Solidarity by Sleeps With Coyotes, with her permission. (posted 5/9/01)
Exodus 22:18: rated NC-17 for violence. An AU for Everything Dies, and a ResFic to boot, all in one story. Y'know, I'm going to get a reputation for being lazy yet. <g> Please take all warnings at the top of the story seriously, folks. Not really nice. The first couple paragraphs should tell you that, but I'll be redundant for once. (posted 7/13/01)
   Eroica fic
('cause I'd have never read it, much less written it, if it weren't for her)
Even & Odds: Rated PG, for innuendo and gambling. <g> I mean, doesn't everyone speculate about their bosses behind their backs? (posted 5/19/01)

Everything Else

Finally! Something that actually belongs here. (I knew it would happen sooner or later.) So -- Challenge Stories, of various types.

Only one of these takes place in Aidan's universe and it's marked as such. The rest are, for the most part, stand-alone pieces in their own universes. The one or two series are marked as such.

As of 8/3/00 -- not all of these are Highlander. We have X-Files (XF), Forever Knight (FK), and even a Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BtVS) crossover here now. due South isn't here yet, but it'll be marked (dS) when it gets here. From Eroica, With Love is only on another page for the moment, but if it shows up here, it'll be under (Er). If it isn't marked, it's Highlander (HL) universe only.

Yes, I do like playing on challenge wheels -- oops? I'll start marking fandoms for those who don't like mixing and matching their flavors. (Although if you don't, you may be just a little bit lost....)

ABC challenge stories:

This one sounds appallingly simple and thus easy, right? Right. The idea is to write a story where each sentence (not paragraph - sentence) starts with a successive letter of the alphabet. Start wherever you like in the alphabet, run forward or back, but stick to the sequence. Oh, yeah, and it has to make sense as a story, too. Fun, hmm? And here's a link to the Net Cafe where the other stories in this challenge are archived.

Aidan's Arc & Universe:

Oh, No! Not Another Learning Experience!: Xan, Alex, and Connor picking on a lecturer, and an ABC challenge piece. PG-13 for immortals having too much fun. (posted 12/4/00)

Stories in other HL universes (not Aidan fic <g>):

Static: an ABC challenge story about mixed signals. Rated PG-13 for pre-slash
Joe's Journal, 4/28/96: an ABC challenge story (rated PG-13 for all-too-clear Watcher's eyes and some serious innuendo)

"Two-for-One"challenge stories.

Stories in other HL universes (not Aidan fic <g>):

Lightning: rated PG-13 for the clear eyes of a Watcher. Written for the Poetry Wheel challenge (like a lyric wheel, only we sent poetry) and for Devo's "Where does Methos go?" challenge, where we tried to explain where Methos went all the times he muttered about Bora Bora and/or vanished for a while, only to pop back up without a word
Fools Everywhere, written for the Watcher Lyric Wheel and for the First Annual Jackie Chan Behead-O-Rama. (Yes, as soon as there's a site for the stories on that one, I'll link to it. I'll probably end up hosting it, actually.) Rated R for implied slash. Not even remotely my usual pairing, and oh, by the way, this pair is canonical, folks. <g> Enjoy, I hope. (posted 8/25/00)

Other Lyric Wheel pieces (all sorts of Lyric Wheels, too)

Stories in other (sometimes HL) universes (not Aidan fic <g>):

These are the only Horton stories I have so far. Let's hope it stays that way.

Not written for a challenge, but going here anyway: Shards & Links, the sequel to Handled with a Chain. Written because Killa wanted more Joe fic, and bless her for wanting me to do something to clean out my soul.... Rated PG-13. (posted 12/27/00)

Doppelganger: rated PG on general principles, as it's an X-File. Written for the XF Word Wheel, with much profanity and many false starts. Now that it's done, I sort of like it. <g> (XF/HL) (posted 11/22/01)

New as of 10/14 --

Horsemen 2.0, by Sleeps with Coyotes -- I don't care where she lists it, it's a crossover. No, I won't tell you with who/what. That would spoil it. Nyah. Go read. <lol> Highlander/?

The Next Hero, by Hth -- A crossover I would have never imagined. I almost wish there weren't implied slash in it, but oh, the concept is breathtaking and the job of working characters in is dead on. Buffy: the Vampire Slayer/Harry Potter (and yes, you DID read that right)

Rapture, by Wombat -- How in hell did I miss this one? <giggling> If only for the one Southpark line (You'll know it. I knew it and I've never watched Southpark....) you have to read this. X-Files/Highlander

Substitutions, by Josan -- Um. I don't have words for this one. Other than to say that I kept it in my inbox for days, read it twice the first day, again the next, and ended up writing a very long LoC on it. Not a pairing I'd have expected, not a crossover I'd have thought I'd like, and it's wonderful. X-Files/Sentinel

When Hellmouths Collide, by Kimberley Rector and Martha Wilson -- <mad giggles> Oh, man, I thought everyone who rec'd this to me had lost their minds. I really, really did. They hadn't. It's great. Fun, and serious, and silly by turns. Buffy: the Vampire Slayer/Hercules: the Legendary Journeys. (Yes, it really works. Wild, huh?!)

A Shot of Reason and A Code of Silence, by Alice in Stonyland -- Ignore the fact that I helped beta these; that was my good luck. My rec'ing them, however, is y'all's good luck. One of the best cohesions of the two universes that I've had the pleasure of reading, and one of my favorite OCs anywhere. due South/Highlander: the Raven

Arms of Love and I Send a Message, by Zen & nancy -- Right. Not even plausible, not to me. Just too damn weird. But damn, I forget that every time I read these, right up to (and for a while past) the point where I finish 'em. And I still want more sequels, too. So why should I deny y'all the same pleasure? (Why, yes, I do eat Pringles, and no, I can't eat just one. Why do you ask?) Highlander/X-Files Added 11-7-00

Blind, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- Yet another of the Spring Challenge fics. <sigh, purr, thud> I love good Rat stories, what can I say? X-Files/Highlander. Added 6-19-01

China, by torch (fan)torch -- Mulder, Methos, an honest to Gods X-File, a Scully I like: mecca. X-Files/Highlander

Duel, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- For the simplest of reasons: because it always makes me smile, and laugh, and be happy. Not enough of those fics out there. Added 6-19-01

Everything Dies I and II, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- For everyone who wondered how Kronos found Methos, and where, exactly, Kronos got that virus...and what it really did. Or, the ultimate 'behind the scenes of Comes A Horseman and Revelations 6:8' story. Highlander/X-Files crossover. (There are, by the way, missing scenes for that, and the third part is up at her page as a WIP. No ETA on completion for part thee and don't jostle the lady's elbow; she's writing. <g>)

Fires on the Hill, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- this is an AU for her Everything Dies series, and a response to a 'Virgin!Alex' challenge, and I just like the thing, okay? Added 6-19-01

Grass and Petals, by Misha -- Well, it's Bagheera's fault, as so many good things are. Spring and flowers and dangerous, dark-haired men. X-Files/Highlander. Added 6-19-01

Mermaids Singing, by Lyrica -- Characterization, revelations, plot, pacing, hot sex, and good poetry. Of course I'm going to recommend it. <g> Originally appeared in Wounded Heroes. Sentinel/X-Files

Shadows Fade, by Kellie Matthews and AuKestrel -- 'Tales of the City' and Hard Core Logo, with occasional due South appearances. I have no idea who these folks are, because I've never seen Tales or HCL, and I loved this piece. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Added 1-10-01

Something Wicked, by torch -- Krycek and Methos. What more could I ask for? Highlander/X-Files

Somewhere Over the Rainbow: Red, by Josan -- Harsh Realm/X-Files, and superb. Gritty and vicious and real. Enjoy. Added 6-19-01

Thank You for Not Smoking, by Hth -- I'm not a Scully fan. I don't even watch the Pretender. But I get this. Man, do I get this. And if you're not sure if you'd like it, but you like Once A Thief? Try it. Trust me. X-Files/Pretender

The Look, and Look Again, by Bone -- Oh, man, hotter than hell, perfect characterization, and... excuse me while I drool my way over to reread these. Sentinel/Highlander (Note: yes, there are two more in the series, one by Bone, one by Melina. The two I read and reread, however, are the ones I recommended.)

Up in the Valley, Down in the Mountain, by Amand-r -- I have no words for this. Just...read it. Not at all what you might expect, other than superb. Highlander/Narnia crossover. (Yes, you read that right. Now go read the story. Trust me.)

Warm Thoughts, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- Um, drunk, disorderly, and having more fun than anyone else in Joe's bar. With Beetle's lyrics, too. What more did you want? Highlander/X-Files

<sigh> Guess I give up. When this fandom is good, my Lord and Lady but it's good. More soon, as I sort out what I do and don't like.

New as of 10/14 --

Bubble Gum Girl, by Kat -- Whoof. Um. Rough, dark, nasty. Damn fine, though, like strong whiskey.

Natural Blues, by Sheila -- Oz, cigarettes, and time. They shouldn't be this frightening in that conjunction....

The -plex Series, by Spyke Raven -- <shudder> Unnerving, in all the best ways. Set in the 'wish' universe, and just... terrifying. I didn't think I liked Riley, either....

Splinter, by Rheanna and Yahtzee -- What might have happened on the way home from the Host's world.... I'm getting really, really fond of Fred, too.

Vivere, by Rheanna -- Wild, wild, wonderfully done AU. Don't miss this. (Actually, this is Angel fic, not Buffy, but I never really pay attention to that distinction, sorry.)

Previously recommended...

Lux Viviens, by Hth: Gonzo Sunset, Moonlight & Van Helsing, and Buzzed -- Well, for one thing, don't ask me if I'm just going to rec everything she writes, because the answer is no. <g> And the odd thing is, I've read her rants and freqently, I don't agree. But the fic, oh, man, the fic. Anyway. This is, brace yourself, Giles/Oz slash. And she makes me buy it. And keep buying it. Amazing. Just...trust me. Try the first one. Added 6-19-01.

Sands of Time series, by James Walkswithwind & Wolfling -- Xander/Spike pre-slash and slash. Sure, tell me another one. Hell, Xander living with Giles because his family sucks dead rats through a straw, and not particularly well? Okay, now that I believe, actually.... No, these series work in and through the eps, mostly, and deal with abuse and love and do a helluva fine job. Added 11-7-00

Twenty-eight Days, by Hth -- eventually I'll have rec'd half her page, I know. Sorry. Tara/Willow slash and just...lovely. Added 11-7-00

Wesley, Rogue Demon, by James Walkswithwind. You know? I can't give a synopsis of this without completely spoiling it. So I won't. Trust me, and Ali, and Te, and everyone else on God's green earth who's recommended this: read it. Added 6-19-01.

When She Was Bad, by Roxanne Longstreet Conrad -- Genfic, Ethan's mischief, and a superb, warped view of realities. Read it, gentlebeings, and weep for what might have been.

New as of 10/14 --

Chicago's Most Wanted, by Speranza -- <snicker. snort. guffaw 'til I can't breathe> Nuns. RayK. Reporters and concerned citizens picketing the 27th precinct. Fraser in a black leather jacket. Guns. Semi-organized crime. Dante's Inferno, in, I might add, the original Italian. Tuna casserole. <snort of laughter, wheezing breath> Oh, Gods, the tuna casserole.... The hell with it, why are you still here, go READ THIS!!! Do not drink or eat while reading; you'll regret it!!

Rabbit jumps out the window, by Basingstroke -- Fraser and Maggie, and those late at night, heart to heart talks where you don't quite slide around the issue because the other person would let you if you wanted to....

Previously recommended...

Better than Ice Cream, by Hth -- Um. Words don't do it justice. And it makes a hell of a lot more sense if you saw the episode "Juliet is Bleeding". But... everything you needed to know about growing up female, and Italian, and Catholic. And just growing up. Enjoy.

Scrabble, by Speranza -- Okay, look, I know, I know, the damn link takes you to her fic page and you have to go find the story yourself.... There's a reason I did it this way. Depending on which browser you're on, it makes a difference which version you read. Look, take the lady's word for it, and read this. Sweet Lord. It's interesting. And it helped me kick ass at Scrabble last weekend, too.... (And while you're at it? And since you're already there? Check out The Killer Replacements. Trust me.) Added 6-19-01

Slice, by Brighid -- Um. It'll make you hungry? And it is, honestly, one of the most innovative fics I've seen in just ages. I love the section dividers, too, because they make sense in the context of the story. Enjoy. Added 6-19-01

Too Late For Dreams, After the Heart Falls, and All That's Left, by Alice in Stonyland -- I'll get her for this. I say that about anyone who writes angst and makes me like it, mind you.

New as of 10/14 -- All of it!

Three Grades Thicker, by Sleeps with Coyotes -- This is what got me into this fandom. I don't need another one. I really don't....

Worth, by Filigree -- This was started well before Sept. 11th. Do not hassle the author. It is a WIP which is almost done. Again, do not hassle the author. It's damn fine writing. ENJOY!

New as of 10/14 -- All of it!

Arms of Consolation, by Mary O'Merta -- Er. Old friends. Not so chance reunions. Really hot sex. <giggling madly> Het sex at that. Um. I like it?

Bound by His Brother's Heart, by Pythia -- I'm a pagan. I love myth. I love fantasy. This just hit every little button I had and made me sigh and purr.

The Chronicles of Chronos, by Pythia -- I don't usually like to do this. I'm making an exception. Read this series. All of em: A Hero's Price, A Hero's Prize; A Night of Ghosts and Shadows; and Hot Water. Gorgeous fic, beautifully done, and I'm very much looking forward to the next one in the series!

New as of 10/14 --

At the Root of the World Tree, by tarshaan -- Oh, man. Sequel to Syni Molniya, although it makes sense by itself, and it's... appalling to watch. This damn thing makes me hurt for the new immortal every time I read it. So. Want a really different POV on the Game? Read this.

Bodypaint, Bartabs, and Beer, by Andie P -- I don't believe I never rec'd this... Damn fine fic. I wish we knew where Andie was and if she's still writing.

Degrees of Separation, by Kai -- Dark, haunting, and perfect. Enjoy.

How to Make an Irish Coffee, by Sleeps with Coyotes -- <giggles> Whipped cream -- whee! Enjoy!

Three Days Down, by Jane St. Clair -- if you only know Jane through her share of the Janete X-fic? Or through her West Wing stuff? She wrote a Highlander piece, too. Whoof!

Vigil, by Kai -- If you knew your death was coming, what would you do? A really goregous Darius piece.

Previously recommended....

Acherusia, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- Er. Resfic. You're warned. Weird by her standards. Again, you're warned. Haunting, say I, and you're warned the third and final time. Added 6-19-01

The Bark of Dante, by Taz -- A Duncan/Methos first time, with lovely Roman insults, and recipes, and museums. Fun, and a good job. Killa's hosting it, thank Gods! New link 1-10-01

Biting Dust, by Nynaeve -- Connor and Methos, and immortality and what it does to you and how to survive it. This is a first story? Lord and Lady, I should have done so well with mine!

Brought To Heel, by JiM and Piper -- Probably my favorite of all the Harlequin, Shmarlequin stories. It's AU, and first time, and well, I'm a sucker for Frank Yerby books.

Duet, by Killashandra, first of the Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark series -- Sharp and sweet by turns, a pleasure to read and one of my all-time favorites of hers... which is saying a lot.

The Duke's Reward, by the lady of shallott -- An AU I loved, written late for the Swords at Sunset contest. Added 1-10-01

Fair and Bright, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- A pairing I would never have expected and yet I was hurting for Methos by the end of it. Odd, dreamy, and all sharp-edged emotion.

Fertility Rites, by Kai -- Um. Bagheera's Spring Challenge, sure, but... dancing along the edge of sex and religion, I suppose. That old time religion, at that. Added 6-19-01

The First to Leave, by Carin LaMontagne -- a sequel/companion to Immortal Beloved, and another look at relationships between immortals and mortals. Added 11-7-00

Games & Conversations, by Alice in Stonyland -- Watchers, poker, and policy. Gen fic. Maybe the best thing Ali has written, IMO, which is saying a very great deal.

The Good Student, by Sylvia Volk -- Yup, I'm recommending gen. I write it occasionally, too, what did you expect? Read it for the fencing with ice cream if nothing else, but read it for the looks at teachers and students, and why the idea of the Game may be the ultimate in cruelty... or the ultimate excuse for the wicked. Added 6-19-01

Hammer and Anvil, by MacNair -- I didn't like Endgame. At all. (Well, okay, maybe one or two of the flashbacks, and there were Methos/Joe parts, but overall, bleah.) This, however, is fascinating, and rough, and oddly...believeable, given the nature of the Game. Try it. Added 6-19-01

Hope Chest, by Elynross -- Melancholy and pleasure mix in this one. For everyone who likes to clean the house or desk before starting on something new.

i, pet, by Kim Gaspar -- Another of the 'everyone recs this, but....' stories. Right: one of the few warnings I'll put up. This is BDSM, folks, emphasis on all four letters. It is also the best job I have ever seen done of showing why either side would want to do it, and how to handle it so as to keep everyone intact... and why sometimes, some people need this. Damn fine writing.

Immortal Beloved, by Carin LaMontagne -- Gen fic, Poetry Wheel fic, and oh, I loved this one. One of my favorite immortals, Matthew McCormick, and one of my favorite questions: How do mortals and immortals coexist in relationships? Lovely, lovely piece. The sequel, The First to Leave is in here, too. Added 11-7-00

In Darkness, Truth, by chelle -- Oh, man. This is...lyrical and healing and so bloody accurate it made my gut hurt, sometimes. The rest of the time I just smiled.

Kaffee & Conversation, by Arsenic -- I read this when she first posted it to the Lyric Wheel and it just blew me away. She took a character I don't usually like and made me like this story because she let me watch an immortal mature and change.

Leaning With the Turns, by Aristide -- <g> On 'adventurous' vs. 'reckless'. The kiss alone.... Bring a fan. Bring ice cubes. Duncan/Methos first time. Go read it. Added 1-10-01

Lost, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- A canonical AU (yes, I'm serious, and no that's not a contradiction here), with major angst warnings. All I can say is, trust the lady, she knows what she's doing.

Mourning Morning, by MacNair -- <weg> A HL: Endgame spoiler piece that I liked. A lot. <g> It's not what you think. Enjoy. (Trust me. Would I abuse y'all? Of course not.)

No, Nay, Never, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- Bad puns, mistletoe, Irish bands, wonderful Joe (never enough good Joe stories, IMO) -- I was happy. You will be too.

No Stone Unturned, by MacNair -- Wow! Connor, and Duncan, and Methos, and students and teachers and relationships.... Wow. Read this. Oh, trust me, and read this. Added 1-10-01

Nose Prints on Glass, by rac -- Methos, MacLeod, and commitments. Rated Q for quirky, added 1-10-01

Not A Chance In Hell, by Canadian Girl -- <weg> I love this story, for so many reasons it's frightening. Horton gets his just desserts.... Genfic, by the way.

Not in the Winter, by Arachne -- I'd say that this is about friendship, and devided loyalties, and survival and different priorities, and it is. But it's more than all that, so read it and enjoy for yourself.

Perserverance, by Diane DeShaun -- best known for her gloriously fun Whim Boys series, this is still possibly my favorite of Di's stuff. But don't expect it to be fun and games, because it isn't.

The Price You Pay, by Milkshake Butterfly -- Oddly enough, I'm told this is my fault. <g> Mind you, I put out the Watcher stories challenge two years ago. Oh, well. Milkshake Butterfly blames me for all sorts of things, and I'll take the rap happily. This is a very different take on the Watchers, the Watcher vows, and interference, non-interference and morals. I hope you enjoy. Added 6-19-01

Proof, by Kai -- Um. Well. Er. Be careful what you ask for? There is such a thing as 'more than a Watcher needs to know'? This is the place to learn the truth of those two statements, that's for sure. Added 9-25-00

Quid Pro Quo, by Kai -- With a title like this, I had to read it. I'm very glad I did. Added 1-10-01

Renewal, by tarshaan -- I made a chance comment on ROG and tarsh wrote this. I alternate between being glad she did and jealous that I didn't come up with something this subtle and lovely!

The Runners-Up, by Sinanju -- I'm not sure I can explain this one without spoiling it. All I can say is, this may be the most minor character I've ever recognized at the end of a fic. <g> Do enjoy. Added 6-19-01

Save the Last Dance For Me, by Dayspring -- Because I enjoyed it. Snarky and fun, and lovely interplay, and a reminder to consult your shieldmen before committing them to battles.... Added 6-19-01

The Seduction of the Desert Prince, by the Krell -- we don't know much about the Krell...other than the fact that we've been gleefully devouring this AU for ages now. Thanks, ladies!

September Song, by Kat Allison -- Kat's stories always haunt me, but this one in particular makes me think still, months after I first read it.

Stall Wars: The Implier Strikes Back, by Sleeps with Coyotes, illustrated by X -- <lolol> Oh, man, go read this, it's hilarious!!! Added 11-7-00

Still-Heart, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- If you haven't read all her stuff, why on earth not? (g) What are quickenings, and what can you do with them, and are the gods real, and if they are, what else is? Oh, and a D/M first time that makes you smile and purr and laugh....

Strata, by Kat Allison -- Age, and depth, and the importance of perspective. Look, folks, it's a Kat Allison story, what more could you ask?

Synecdoche for Piano and G-String, by Elynross -- About differences in communication and behavior, and the distance between desires and their obtainability. I think I wrote my first LoC because of this story.

Syni Molniya, by tarshaan -- We've all had the days where we tried to do something, and found out the hard way that someone, somewhere, had forgotten to tell us everything, or the instructions were just plain wrong. Usually, that gets you a stereo stand with the rough edges showing or a shelf where you need an extra support to keep it level. Annoying, but not really a big deal. But what happens when the missing pieces include the rules for the Game? Added 6-19-01 (The sequel is now up, At the Root of the World Tree)

Tant Que Je Vive, by Mandragora -- What are you willing to do for love? And what are you willing to do for survival? And what will you do when you think they conflict?

Though Lovers Be Lost, by Margaret Turner -- Man, I loved this! Kronos resurrection fic for Coyote's page, but lord, this thing gave me the chills with a very different portrayal of the relationship between Methos and Kronos, and for that matter, between Methos and Duncan. I can't recommend it highly enough! Wow! Added 1-10-01

Three Jacks, Queen High, by Tenaya -- <lol> Oh, this was good. The real story in that last half-hour of " 'Til Death." Trust me, ladies, gentlemen: go read it. Added 6-19-01.

The Truth About the Horsemen, by tarshaan -- <bwaahahaha> Skinning the dead horse and using the leather so no one else will beat the poor thing. Vain hope, but writing the ad parodies for her was fun.... It lives up to the title is all I can say. Added 11-7-00

The Emory Stories, by listen-r -- One of my favorite OFC's, and no, damn it, this is not a Mary Sue. Plot? Oh, yeah. Good slash? Oh, yeah. Mary Sue? I ain't seen one.

To Hell in a Handbasket, by Verin -- I don't believe I didn't have this up here yet. Poetry and the afterworld for a vanquished immortal. Whoof. Have a favorite drink ready after this one.... Added 1-10-01

Whisper of a Ghost, Scream of an Angel, by Arsenic -- <sigh> Arsenic did it to me again. I don't even like Cassandra.... Enjoy this, folks, it's excellent. Added 1-10-01

White Rabbit, by Dargelos -- Sweet Jesus. I don't believe this. Rock and roll, and the '60s and everything that damn well just might have happened. Long, long fic, people, and worth it. Added 6-19-01.

Previously recommended....

The Skunk Tales, by Pat -- This goes to the index for these. They start out fun and just get better as they go. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! Added 6-19-01

The South Wind, et al, by Beth AKA Midge -- Okay, this is the the link to South Wind. The link to the next story is at the bottom. The series is now done, and these have been some of my favorite Magnificent 7 fics. Enjoy! Added 6-19-01

New as of 10/14 --

Rosie, by Kit Mason -- Gorgeous work. Blair as a stubborn, strong man; Jim as a careful, controlled individual; a lovely job on day to day routine and lives outside the station; and woodworking so precisely detailed it makes me wish I knew how.

Sentinel's Rules for Dating the Guide, by Diana Williams -- Exactly what it says it is, and hilarious!!

Previously recommended....

Love Amidst the Ruins, by Kai -- Leave it to Kai to get me to read... well, anything, honestly. I never even watched Brimstone, for example. This though is a Sentinel AU that will just blow anyone away. Trust me; would I lie to you? Added 6-19-01

Prison, by Jack Reuben Darcy -- This one just blew me away when Rac handed it to me at Escapade a couple years ago. An AU, in pre-World War II Singapore. Right. With characters from The Sentinel. Riiight. Sure. Damn, but it works. Since I noticed the pages don't jump to each other: part 2, part 3, and part 4.

The Reluctant Patient, by Bone -- Some writers just impress the hell out of me, with pretty much anything they want to write: Sleeps with Coyotes and Bone are high on that list. Humor, by the way. <g> Originally appeared in Wounded Heroes.

<sigh> Okay, this counts as my 'odd fandom', right? Well, no not really, there are one or two others. Now, if I could just get someone else to write Blazing Saddles stuff, 'cause I'm way too busy now....

Strenghtening the Bond, by Viccy -- Disney movie version, not Dumas. I'm just such a sucker for wartime, buddy slash....

Vice and Redemption, by Deb Chan -- Right. Dumas and the '70s movies, not the more recent Disney. And this one... hurts. I warned you, right?

Affirmations, by Viridian -- Oh, Gods, I had forgotten this fic, and I love it so much that I'm amazed I forgot it. <giggling> This got me through the worst quarter of one year in a finance office....

Drinking with the Enemy, by Sleeps with Coyotes -- <giggling> Pretty much what it says. Tequila shooters and heresy.

Strangers and the Strange Dead, by Kipler -- I'd been looking for this. I'm so glad I found it again. So -- what is it like, coming back from the dead? This might tell you. Gods know, Chris Carter didn't. <grr>

Previously recommended....

A Rat Tale, by Deb Chan -- Oh, man! Krycek/Mulder stuff, and a bedtime story and parody/satire that had me laughing out loud when I could breathe, and Kipling to boot. What more could a gryphon ask for?

A River in a Dry Place and In the Shadow of the Rock, by JiM -- My favorites among her Houseboat variations. Because sometimes it's not enough for the pain to end. Sometimes you have to relearn what it is not to ache....

A Time for Lovers, by L. McKinnon -- This story makes me cry every time I read it, which is a rare accomplishment. Bring your kleenex and get thee hence.

Better Homes and Gardens, by Blackbird -- relaxing, enjoyable, and gentle. A lovely, pleasant surprise of a story. Added 1-10-01

Beyond the Barrier of Snow, by Josan -- AU. No problem. Non-con for large sections of it. Um. Well, I will say it fit the setting and plot. Skinner/Krycek, sort of? Damn. Only for Josan. And yet... it lingers, it does, and twists the mind back to the society and the culture, the behaviors and relationships.... And if it hurts at times, well, that's life. Added 6-19-01

Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind, by Josan -- This is wild stuff, and I loved it. Krycek/Skinner, and some intriguing theories on clones, the Consortium, and families. Good stuff, enjoy it. It has sequel stories, which can be found, with Josan's other stories here. Added 1-10-01

Enemy, Friend, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- a missing scene from "Triangle", for everyone who wondered who was Krycek's alternate personna in this episode.

Evidence series, by quercus -- HOT DAMN!!! They're here! They're up! Many thanks to whoever else helped talked quercus into posting them. Whee! Just read 'em, folks, and enjoy. I'm off to reread them myself. <sigh, purr> Added 1-8-01

Ghosts and Lovers, by torch -- Her Northwest passage series. I think this may have been the first Mulder/Krycek slash that I both read and believed. And yet, I'm not sure slash describes these at all. Cases and characterization and changes, most of all, perhaps? I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Helpless Dancer, by Dr. Ruthless -- Spinning effortlessly through and around the events of "Requiem", this Lyric Wheel piece just floored me. A gorgeous Krycek POV on the events therein. I loved this. (<g> She even forgave me the lyrics I sent.) Added 9-25-00. Corrected URL 1-10-01.

I Still Have Plans to Go to Mexico, by JiM and MJ -- Oh, man. I am just such a sucker for people who can make you buy a trio. <g> Anyone having trouble believing that? And this... modern poetry, and X-Files, and retired Feds, and retiring assassins.... This thing is, or should be, a classic.

Mercury Falling, by C. Slatton -- Wow. And again, wow. Early, profiler Mulder. Lovely stuff. Long, be thou warned, but plotted, researched and well-written. Off to enjoy again. Added 1-10-01

Missing Voices, by Joyce McKibben, Meredith, and MKA -- Gen fic, and post-episode fic, and it won enough awards to shake a stick at... for good reason. The story made perfect sense to me and I wasn't even watching X-Files at the time. First person POV, traded between three characters, as they deal with one time sequence and one overriding necessity. Try this one out, folks. **Link corrected 1-8-01. Sorry!**

Paradox Club, by Cody Nelson -- A classic. Truly. <g> I'm not always sure I buy this, but I never think that while I'm reading it. BDSM, K/M, hotter'n'hell, and, just, wow. For everyone who think Fox Mulder would investigate anything.... Added 11-7-00

Partners, by Sylvia -- This is the piece that made me learn to really, really appreciate AUs. It just took me a little while to remember it, track it down, and post it here. But this is not your normal Krycek/Mulder fic. Sweet Mothers but that is an understatement. Added 11-7-00 Author corrected 3-20-01 - my apologies, ladies!

Reponsibility, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- The English gentleman gave Krycek a job with that worst of complications: options.

Roswitha, by quercus -- Odd, unsettling, and evolving as it goes, with a ghost, relationships, and killer brownies, among other things. Added 1-10-01

The Same Everywhere, and its sequel, The Hand We Were Dealt, parts I & II, by Jane Mortimer -- What happens when you haggle with a being who's been in your mind, knows you better than you do...and insists on giving you what it thinks you want as payment? Added 11-7-00

Settling, Settling: Down, and Settling: In, by JiM -- Start with a fire and a kidnapping, add one former A.D. of the FBI, one assassin, and stir.... And you still won't get anything this incredible, unless you're JiM. More of these to come, and soon, one hopes.

Solidarity, by Sleeps With Coyotes -- Mytharc continuations, and differing types of Oiliens, and aliens, and profiles, and shifting alliances, and all the Ratboy you could want.

The ASPCM, by Wombat -- A subject near and dear to my heart. Because only you can prevent Mulder-torture....

The Story Spotter's Guide, by Wombat -- <giggle> Oh, this is just too funny. Try and imagine 'Audobon Society' classifying muse types.

Wakened by Silence, by JiM -- Hiking, and life, and Nature, and your heart. Skinner/Mulder and JiM makes me like it. Added 6-19-01

Or, I only had one rec for this fandom...so far.

New as of 10/14 --

Christmas Carols for the Psychiatrically Challenged, by Sleeps with Coyotes -- Okay, it's exactly what it says. Yes, you can worry. No, you should not ingest while reading.

Return of the Princess Bride Jedi, by everyone -- Look. Go read this. Do NOT eat or drink anything while reading. Giggles pretty much guaranteed.

Whodunit, by Sleeps with Coyotes -- <snerk> Nevermind. Just... go read it and see what answer you get....

Previously recommended....

1000 Oceans, by Amanda F -- Yeah, I know. Me, rec'ing anime fic? I don't even watch anime. Well, honestly, I don't watch much of anything. Oops? This however was simply sensational. Gundam Wing stuff.

And When He Falls, by torch -- Good Omens fic. <g> Look, any book about the Apocalypse... okay, any book by Pratchett.... Oh, the hells with it. It will tell you everything you need to know if I explain that the Dramatis Personae at the start of Good Omens describes Crowley as 'a demon who did not so much fall as saunter vaguely downwards.' (P.S. -- the book is by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett and I broke the spoine on my hardback by rereading it too many times. Go buy one. You won't regret it.)

Compare and Contrast, by Elaine MC -- I don't read TPM. I still don't see any slash in the movie, and teacher/student slash is a fairly sure way to squick me. So I don't quite believe that I'm rec'ing this, except... everyone wants to belong with someone, or be part of something, I think. And this one is just so perfect for the days when you need to see those kinds of connections....

The Eightfold Fence, by Sue -- I don't believe I'm recommending Shogun fic. Mind, I didn't think there was any out there, either. But... if you can imagine more fic, slash even, written in Clavell's style, well, try this. If you can't imagine it? Try it anyway. Added 6-19-01

Feedback, by Te -- You had time to read the fic? Read this. Te, honey, have I mentioned lately that I love you? Added 6-19-01

On the Midway, by Leila. McKinnon -- Um. Not fandom. Don't know what to call these, other than heartbreaking. Added 6-19-01

Sweetly and Steadily, by torch -- Gawain and the Green Knight fic. No, I'm not kidding. Yes, you do want to read it.

You Win Some, by Viccy -- Okay. For the record, I likedMortal Kombat. (We won't mention the sequel, okay?) So. I'm rec'ing this just because I want to infect other people with...I mean share the mis.... Never mind. <g> Any more MK fic out there?

You're Welcome, by Brenda Antrim -- Dogma slash. I kid you not. <sigh> And I just rewatched the movie on video and I feel so much better after re-reading this, too. Enjoy. Added 11-7-00

Opinions

How NOT to send feedback. <g> Yes, I am aware that the people who read this will almost certainly be the ones who don't need to worry about it. But I'm trying, okay? (posted 7/25/01)

Suggestions for sending constructive criticism. I had to write this as a companion to the comments on flames and rudeness. <shrug> It's a quick and dirty guide to not just sending the suggestions but for doing so in a way that ought to get the writer to think about what you said.... (posted 7/25/01)

In Defense of Original Characters. All the reasons that OC does not equal Mary Sue that I could come up with off the top of my head and fit into one structured essay. As well as the reasons that this common fallacy is screwing up original fanfiction, and original fiction, on the Net. (posted 3/30/03)

Watcher Tales

Nolens Volens - by Sleeps With Coyotes

Rated R to NC-17 for sex, violence, gore, torture, etc. Be thou warned: this one is Caspianfic, Serialkillernastiness, and not for the faint of heart. It's also appallingly well done, as the lady's stuff always is! But don't say you weren't warned....

Counterpoint - by Alyss

Rated PG-13 for no more violence than you'd find in any episode. "Observe, record, and never interfere." In a small town? Yeah, right! A new breed of Watcher is slowly learning to deal with the realities of the field, and the ideals of the bureaucrats.

The 'Masters at Deception' Arc - by Amand-r

For another take on the Watchers, and a nicely sinister plotline. Besides, if you haven't read everything Amand-r has written, now's your chance. Rated at Amand-r's site.

Life In Wartime - by Lori Wright

Rated PG-13 for violence. A different view, all right -- a Watcher's decline into madness.

The Watcher Report - by Dawn Cunningham

An alternate ending to "The Darkness", not rated.

Last Tango at Joe's - by Vi Moreau

Rated PG-13. Elena Duran and Connor MacLeod under the Watchful eye of Joe Dawson.

Added 10/2/99

Whatever You Say - by Alice in Stonyland

Rated PG-13. Amy knows the truth about Methos... and she wants to know why her father lied to her. . jump in the river - by Dana Woods

Rated PG-13. Joe Dawson has made some harsh choices while Watching Duncan MacLeod, and one of them has come back to haunt him.

NOTE -- This link has been changed to the new address. Yes, it works now!! Rhi

Lightning - by Rhiannon Shaw

Rated PG-13 for language, maybe. Gen fic, honest. Joe found something he didn't expect on a blues demo tape -- insight into Methos.

Joe's Journal, 4/28/96 - by Rhiannon Shaw

Rated PG-13 for implied m/m UST. Sometimes your friends see things more clearly than you do.

Added11/2/99

Brave the Smoke -- by Shauna O

Rated NC-17 for m/m. Joe, Amy, Duncan, Methos, and more technology than any Watcher should really be allowed to play with....

Whirlwind of Rebellion -- by Farquarson

Rated PG-13. Read this one, folks. It made me nervous. It deals with James Horton's history, with the Watchers' early handling of problems, and with minds. It's very good.

Handled with a Chain -- by Rhiannon Shaw

Rated NC-17 for squick. There's something about the Lyric Wheel challenges that makes me think like a Watcher, I guess. This is not my usual, and it's not for the squeamish; it was, however, perfect for Halloween.

Added1/5/00

Proof -- by Boyd

Definitely NC-17 and slash. Proof that some things do fall under a Watcher's category of 'I didn't need to know this!'

Quickenings -- by Janeen Grohsmeyer

Unrated. A Watcher scientific report on the nature of quickenings. Have fun, folks!

Just added -- 2/14/00

To Observe and Record -- by Lady Moonhawke

Rated PG-13. What happens when the Watcher and the immortal are a little too well-matched? What secrets do you keep, which do you give up? And where do oaths come in?
