Joe Dawson is a character from Highlander. He is Duncan MacLeod's Watcher, introduced in the first episode of the second season.
Joe is canonically disabled (as is the actor who plays him). Joe's legs were amputated following injuries sustained in Vietnam.
Despite the abundance of slash in Highlander fandom, many writers avoided slashing Joe with anyone. "Joe Dawson don't do no slash" was a oft-written phrase. It wasn't until Methos was seen taking care of Joe in an episode that the Joe/Methos pairing was seen as having potential. It has since become the most popular pairing for Joe.
