Welcome to FanloreProject:Tumblr archiving!

Tumblr posts disappear easily: blog URLs change, blogs are deactivated, and the Tumblr NSFW Content Purge means the continued existence of posts on the site is more uncertain than before.

This project was created in order to help save as much of the fannish cultural record found on Tumblr as possible. It was also created to coordinate and get help with archiving efforts, to make it easier to make small contributions towards archiving fandom on Tumblr, and to be a place of enthusiasm and shared knowledge!

Please feel welcome to add to and edit this page. It is helpful to include a short description of your edits in the summary field below before you save the page. This allows easier navigation for others later.

What is Tumblr archiving?

Tumblr is a micro-blogging social media platform. It has had a large fandom presence throughout the 2010s.

Archiving, in this case, is saving copies of web pages to sites where they will not suddenly disappear, or finding copies already saved.

It also means making links to those archived copies available, in this case by putting them on Fanlore.

Scope

  • action: Go through Fanlore pages and add archive links for Tumblr URLs. (Jump to section)
  • action: Archive fannish posts that you want to save, and posts you think belong on Fanlore or will be linked to on Fanlore (e.g. example fanworks). (Jump to section)
  • action: Upload to Fanlore still images and gifs that you think belong on Fanlore. (Jump to section)
  • action: Help find reblog copies of fannish posts that no longer exist and are not archived. (Jump to section)

Some guidelines

Some Things to Keep in Mind

  • Information for new editors can be found in our New Visitor Portal. Among other things, it explains how to make an account, how to edit pages, and includes a lot of other helpful information.
  • Discussion on this project's Talk page is encouraged, as is discussion on individual article Talk pages.
  • All edits, whether big, tiny, or in-between, are welcome.
  • You don't have to be an "expert" on a subject. Adding what you know and feel passionate about are pieces of the puzzle, and ones that hopefully inspire others to expand on the topic.
  • All typos, mistakes, and errors are easily corrected. Don't let perfection hobble you.
  • Remember that Fanlore, like all wikis, is a collaborative effort, and may be edited by anyone.
  • Pages are not "owned" or controlled by any single person or group of people.
  • Pages and the information on them are only as robust, encompassing, and accurate as the information added by interested and enthusiastic fans like you.
  • Fanlore practices and encourages a Fanlore:Plural Point of View.
