BB-8 is an astromech droid introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. BB-8 is the companion to Poe Dameron on his X-wing.

BB-8, sometimes written as Beebee-Ate and nicknamed Bee or Beebee, is an astromech droid belonging to Poe Dameron. The droid’s body is made up of a large orange and white ball with a domed head resting atop it. The droid is brave and loyal, developing strong bonds with Poe Dameron, Kazuda Xiono, and Rey. [1]

BB-8 was built in 29 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin) and became Poe Dameron’s astromech while Dameron still served with the New Republic. The droid accompanied Dameron when he left the New Republic to join the Resistance. During the events of the Poe Dameron comic book series, BB-8 serves alongside Poe and the other members of Black Squadron, Temmin “Snap” Wexley, L’ulo L’ampar, Karé Kun, and Jessika Pava, in their search for Lor San Tekka.

In Star Wars: Resistance, Poe and BB-8 encounter Kazuda Xiono, who Poe recruits to act as a spy for the Resistance. He temporarily loans BB-8 to Kazuda during his mission. BB-8 rejoins Poe just before his trip to the village of Tuanul on Jakku to meet with Lor San Tekka. During the meeting, the First Order attacks, and Poe gives the droid a memory drive containing a map to Luke Skywalker. This means that for a large portion of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, both the Resistance and the First Order are trying to find the droid. Eventually, Finn, Rey, Han Solo, and Chewbacca deliver BB-8 back to the Resistance where the droid is reunited with Poe Dameron and provides a portion of the map to Luke Skywalker to General Leia Organa.

In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, BB-8 assists Poe during his stalling tactic to buy the Resistance ships time to evacuate. Later, BB-8 accompanies Finn and Rose Tico on their mission to Canto Bight, and then, aboard the First Order vessel Supremacy, BB-8 hijacks an AT-ST to help Finn and Rose escape.

During the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, BB-8 stays with Rey during her Jedi training on Ajan Kloss and later accompanies Rey, Finn, Poe, and Chewbacca on their mission to find Exegol. After the Resistance’s victory at the Battle of Exegol, BB-8 goes with Rey to Tatooine where she buries Anakin Skywalker’s and Leia’s lightsabers.
