Theon supports Robb when he calls the banners and travels south to fight the Lannisters. In Season 2 Robb sends Theon to his father Balon in hopes of gaining Balon's support, Balon has other plans, to reave and take from the North while the Northern Lords are distracted by the Southern war. Theon has to chose between his Greyjoy family and his loyalty to Robb, ultimately siding with Balon. Theon takes Winterfell, when Bran and Rickon Stark disappear he kills two orphan boys claiming that their bodies are the escaped Stark boys.
