Eddard Stark, known as Ned Stark, is a fictional character from A Song of Ice and Fire, and was played by Sean Bean on the HBO television series Game of Thrones.

Ned's largest concern, more than anything else in the world, was just making sure all the children in his life knew what it meant to be a good person, knew what it meant to be a part of a real family[1]

Canon

At the beginning of the series Ned lives at Winterfell with his family. King Robert Baratheon arrives and asks Ned to be the new Hand of the King. Before he goes south a letter arrives from his sister-in-law Lysa Arryn warning that the former Hand was murdered. Ned goes to King's Landing with his two daughters Sansa and Arya. Ned begins investigating and discovers that Robert's children are not his. He confronts Queen Cersei Lannister with the information, before he can inform the King, Robert is fatally wounded. When Ned tries to take his place as regent, he is betrayed by his supporters and imprisoned. Ned agrees to admit to committing treason in exchange for the safety of his daughter Sansa and that he will be sent to the Night's Watch. However, King Joffrey Baratheon has Ned beheaded.
