Robert Baratheon is a fictional character from A Song of Ice and Fire, and was played by Mark Addy on the HBO television series Game of Thrones.

He's the quintessential medieval king. Meaning to do well and have a kind legacy, but just as human as anyone and succumbing largely to the pleasures readily available to him.[1]

Canon

At the beginning of the series Robert Baratheon is King of the Seven Kingdoms, and married to Cersei Lannister. They have three children Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen. Robert travels north and asks his friend Ned Stark to be Hand of King. Ned agrees, but before he travels south a message arrives warning them that the last Hand was murdered by the Lannisters. Ned investigates and discovers that the children are not Robert's but Jaime Lannisters. Before Ned can reveal this secret Robert is fatally wounded by a boar and dies.
