Welcome to FanloreProject:Genshin Impact!

This project was created as Genshin Impact is now a huge fandom but is very underdocumented on fanlore! Due to its scope, figuring out where to jump in, and an overall organisation strategy, is difficult. The main fandom page is striving to do a lot at once, and using it for both organisation and to describe the fandom is messy and difficult - hence this project to help organise what needs to be done! Furthermore, it is hoped that having a project will help to encourage new editors to help out by making what needs to be done more clear and easy to contribute to.

This page can be used to brainstorm, add links, and hopefully be a place of enthusiasm and shared knowledge!

What is Genshin Impact?

Genshin Impact is a game by HoYoverse (formerly miHoYo) that is basically the world's first breakout Chinese game (sources :US china article, new york times article). It's relatively evenly played by both boys and girls, and boasts more than 66 million active players as of August 2023.

Canon-info aside, Genshin Impact has a huge fandom. It was the most talked about game on Twitter in 2021, and anyone in gaming fandoms has probably seen how genshin has become hugely popular at cons. Cosplay, art, fic, and the like are booming (with Genshin Impact fics ballooning on Ao3), alongside other game-related activities like lore, meta, and strategy guides. With so much content, taking place internationally - in Chinese, English, Japanese, and other languages as Genshin boasts many international fans, there's so much interesting content to cover. I'm not sure if there's any real evidence for it, the very permissive fanwork policy from HoYoverse (basically anything but nendroids for small businesses) as well as fanwork incentives in 2020-2022 or so through its content creator program has also lead to some incredible creativity from fans for fanmade merch.

Scope

Basically everything related to Genshin Impact that goes in the overall Category:Genshin Impact. The subcategories are currently Category:Genshin Impact Relationships, Category:Genshin Impact Characters, Category:Genshin Impact Locations, Category:Genshin Impact Zines, and Category:Genshin Impact Fanfiction. Most pages on relationships and characters are stubs, but thanks to the hard work of several editors many zines have somewhat fleshed out pages!

Where to start

If you want to just start editing, some places to start would be fleshing out character pages, relationship pages, and adding famous fanwork and fan examples. List of stubs + Expansion needed below, or you can refer to Category: Genshin Impact Characters and Category: Genshin Impact Relationships for the list of pages already created!

Organisation and content-wise, we should establish a way to organise wank, controversies and meta; add some overall information about zine culture, genshin zine wank (though admittedly this has bleedover effects into other zines), cosplay, merch production and kickstarters, and genshin communities (such as those on reddit). Brainstorming below. We will need to figure out an arrangement of pages that works, re-organise the main genshin impact page, and create a better list of all that is yet to be covered - discussions can happen here, on relevant talk pages, or in the discord!

More Guidelines

Create stubs with reckless abandon. You may create new categories when you have or expect to have at least ten pages that fit within it (and the category fits within the existing site structure). Category titles should be plural, even if the word/phrase used to add it is singular. (See Help:Categories.) If it needs more work or is related to work done here, come back and update this page too!

If you know a common other term for a page, make redirects as needed so that people looking for familiar terms can find them. A redirect is done by making the page and just putting #REDIRECT [[PAGE NAME HERE]] on the page

Some Things to Keep in Mind

This section contains more general directions for Fanlore editors about contributing to the wiki, and is standard for all FanloreProjects.

  • Information for new editors can be found in our New Visitor Portal. Among other things, it explains how to make an account, how to start a new page, and includes a lot of other helpful information.
  • Discussion on this project's Talk page is encouraged, as is discussion on individual article Talk pages.
  • All edits, whether big, tiny, or in-between, are welcome.
  • You don't have to be an "expert" on a subject. Adding what you know and feel passionate about are pieces of the puzzle, and ones that hopefully inspire others to expand on the topic.
  • All typos, mistakes, and errors are easily corrected. Don't let perfection hobble you.
  • Remember that Fanlore, like all wikis, is a collaborative effort, and may be edited by anyone.
  • Pages are not "owned" or controlled by any single person or group of people.
  • Pages and the information on them are only as robust, encompassing, and accurate as the information added by interested and enthusiastic fans like you.
