Wriothesley is the warden of the Fortress of Meropide, a prison in Fontaine that acts as a realm unto itself, operating independently of Fontaine's legal system. He was originally a prisoner himself before eventually reaching his current rank and instituting a series of reforms within the prison.

• Pronouncing his name: Many fans were baffled by how to pronounce his name leading to many jokes and corrections as well as occasionally complaints about how the voice actors pronounced his name. The most common joke name is Rizz-ley -- not only does it sound close to the name, many fans felt charmed/seduced by this character, and so he has "rizz". Another common one is Wrio-the-slay, for similar reasons.
