The Traveler is the playable protagonist of Genshin Impact. The player chooses either Aether (male) or Lumine (female) to be the Traveler, while the other plays a non-playable supporting role as the Traveler's sibling. The fandom often refers to the Traveler's sibling as the Abyss Twin or the Abyssal Sibling.

Regardless of whether the player selects Aether or Lumine, the story the chosen twin follows is the same with only minor changes in dialogue and character animations. These differences are the only details in game which help to illuminate the differences between their personalities. Additionally, other official media such as promotional materials as well as adaptations further distinguish their individual characters.
