Xiao is a playable 5 star anemo character in Genshin Impact.
Canon
Xiao is an adeptus sworn to fight evil and protect Liyue, and the last of the yaksha. He has been alive for thousands of years. Long before the events of the game, he was enslaved by a god and forced to do his bidding. Morax saved him and gave him a name, gaining Xiao's loyalty.
Chasm Event
In the chasm quest, we learn what happen to the other Yaksha.

Chinese Xiao and English Xiao
In fandom, he is perceived in two very different ways, due to the differences in voice acting and the translation in English as compared to Chinese and the other languages.
Fanon and Common Tropes in Fanworks
- Xiao's Karmic Debt - Xiao is known to experience intense physical and psychological pain due to his karmic debt. This is often a source of angst or hurt/comfort.
- Xiao is Bad at Feelings - a common AO3 tag. The trope likely originates from Xiao's canonical tendency to avoid humanity out of worry and his discomfort with social interactions.
- Grief and Fatalism - All the other yaksha died or disappeared, falling prey to their karmic debt. Fanworks often focus on Xiao grieving them, but also fatalistically expecting the same to happen to him.
