Childe is a playable 5-star Hydro character in the game Genshin Impact.

Canon

Childe was born in a fishing village in the nation of Snezhnaya, and at a young age fell into the Abyss, trained by Skirk, and came back changed. The violence he now desired led to his conscription into the antagonistic Fatui organization, where he became one of their eleven Fatui Harbingers. The player character first meets him in Liyue, where he is involved in a plot to get hold of the Geo Archon's gnosis. To this end, he assists the player character in their effort to locate the Geo Archon, and then turns on them.

Personality-wise, Childe is generally quite friendly and personable, but there is an undercurrent of violence to everything he does. His primary goal in life is to seek out more powerful enemies to fight. He was one of the earliest new playable characters added to the game (in version 1.1), and is to this day the only Fatui Harbinger who has become a playable companion to the player character while still being a member of the Fatui. This may be explained by Childe's cavalier attitude and the fact that among the Harbingers he is considered a pariah for his preference for direct confrontations over deceitful scheming.

• Names: The name being used to refer to Childe is often used to signify something in fanworks. Ajax, as his birth name, gets used by family, close friends, and romantic/sexual partners to signal closeness, and used by authors to signify a more innocent or younger Childe, or just give the reader a more intimate perspective. As a counterpoint, the name Tartaglia is commonly used instead to create a sense of distance. The name Childe tends to be used by default. Childe gets shipped with a wide array of other characters that he both has and has not interacted with in canon. It's fairly easy to do so since, because of his Fatui work, Childe can easily be sent to any location, and he is interested in any person that could be a strong opponent for him - and all playable characters have combat capabilities.
