Aether & Lumine is the gen relationship between the male and female versions of the Traveler player character in Genshin Impact.
Canon
Aether and Lumine are twin siblings who were separated from each other in the first cutscene of the game. The main plot of Genshin revolves around one twin going from nation to nation trying to find the other, who has over the course of their separation become a high-ranking member of the antagonistic faction the Abyss Order.
Fandom
As of October 2023, there are 1,627 works in the relationship tag on AO3.
Personalities
While many play the game with the traveller as a self-insert for themselves, many fans also treat the twins as their own distinct characters. Both are voiced, though players rarely hear their voices, but through the differences in animations and slight differences in expressions, there is somewhat of a fanon consensus around how the twins personalities are.
Lumine is usually considered the more aggressive, reserved, and elegant twin, while Aether is often characterised as sunnier, kinder, and more defensively focused. Aether is also often characterised as a siscon who is overprotective of his sister in AUs.
There is some wank / discontent in the fandom about how Aether seems to be treated as the main protagonist, appearing more often overall in promotional art.
