Allogenes (also known as Genshin in Japanese) are the titular characters of Genshin Impact. They all possess an object called a Vision, which grants them powers of a specific element.
Canon
"Allogene" is what the gods of Genshin Impact call a person who has a Vision, an item that is said to be a "gift from the gods." The common folk of Teyvat call allogenes "Vision holders" instead. Rumor has it that allogenes ascend to godhood once they pass away.
Most playable characters are allogenes, but not all - for example, the Traveler gains elemental powers from the Statues of the Seven instead of a Vision. Not all allogenes are playable characters, either - there are a number of NPCs who have or had Visions.
Fandom
It is common to see allogene OCs or other characters from other media depicted as allogenes.
