Dehya is a playable 5 star pyro character in Genshin Impact. When she was released, many felt disappointed; however she still has her fans, mostly for her design and role in the story.
Canon & Dehya's Release
On release, Dehya faced a notable lack of positive reception within the game's community for several reasons.
Her in-game abilities were considered underwhelming. Her damage output was perceived as inadequate, and her skill set lacked significant utility. Dehya was presented as a 5-star character, meaning she's rare and hard to get. However, the strength of her abilities did not please players, leading them to question the value of investing in her. Many had been saving for Dehya, or skipping other characters to try and get her. Other Pyro characters like Hu Tao or Yoimiya are considered more useful, and even four star characters like Xiangling.
Before, acquiring the character Qiqi was highly associated with disappointment. Many have said that Dehya has replaced Qiqi as worst 5-star character in the game, as Dehya's healing output and utility do not match Qiqi's.[1]
In the broader context of Genshin Impact's meta, Pyro has seen a decline in relevance due to the prominence of hypercarry teams focused on elemental reactions such as hyperbloom, swirl, and spread/aggravate. These teams prioritize characters with high attack and crit stats to maximize elemental reactions. While vaporize and burgeon are also popular, Dehya's contribution to vaporize is limited due to her long skill cooldown and small AoE (Area of Effect) burst. Also, her kit lacks additional utility like buffs, debuffs, or crowd control abilities, making her less appealing to players seeking specific roles within a team.
