Would you mind if I replaced the wikilinks with straight links? I totally agree that most of these should have their own page, but until they do, they should be easy to find! --Emma 17:35, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

What I have seen done in some cases is to leave the link a wikilink, but add a ref to the story for now. Then when someone gets around to creating the fanworks page, they will have the URL right there for them, and in the meantime fans can access the story or meta or vid. --rache 18:02, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

"popular" since?

I've seen the term in more than one fandom since way before 2005. I mean,I had a section for them on my AU recs page since its beginnings in (wayback reference to its 2002 version) and put that section in because it was a familiar term. And I used the term in meta about AU in a FCA symposium column in January 2001 and assumed it to be known.--Ratcreature 19:35, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

In looking through the discussions on all of the posts, it looked like Fusion wasn't a term that many of the people knew, which is why I said that the term was possibly popularized though the community, as it seems like more people now know what it means. It could just be a matter of the first commentators being from a community that didn't have that term, and later commentators using it. Examples

I changed "Notable Examples" to "Examples" because I didn't find anything particular notable about them other than being examples and it is less loaded that way. I could (and would) have easily picked a different story both for SGA(X-Men) and SGA(HP), never mind other SGA fusions to begin with, and another reader would probably find some altogether different stories in another fandom notable. --Doro 09:34, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

I wondered how to sort the examples. I inserted on the assumption that the sort was alphabetically by author in the sections, but now I wonder whether publishing date or title wouldn't make ore sense as an order.--Ratcreature 16:33, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

singling out HDM fusions?

Are these really more popular than the ones giving characters X-Men Mutant superpowers for example? Or making random characters sentinels? I don't think it is that large or a portion, except in that it may be significant that compared to how much "regular" HDM fanfic there is, there may be more giving other characters dæmons. I mean, I'm not against giving it an own section, but I don't think it's that many stories of the total fusions that it stands out.--Ratcreature 17:16, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

I agree. I don't think there are significantly more HDM fusions than other fandom fusions, and mentally, I'm a bit...apprehensive? about separating out fusion by fandom stead of by type of theme. Fusion-by-fandom feels like it should be on the fandom page to me. --rache 17:36, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Hmm. Good thought. I admit that it's the general absence of an HDM fandom that made them stick out to me. Maybe change to "the His Dark Materials fandom is largely expressed in fusion fics" or something, and put it in the main body of the page? Does fusing two canons fit this?

I'm unclear if this only works if one actor is imported into another canon, or if literally combining two canons works as well. Thinking of Britchell (Bragi-Anders/Mitchell), which combines Being Human (UK) and The Almighty Johnsons. The wording on this page implies not, but I can't thik what else to call it. What is going on with "Aesthetic Edits" and the weird links below it?

Anyone know what's going on with this stuff just above the fanfic recs? It looks really weird. I've seen similar links for stories in the IT fandom once before and edited them to the minimalist format everything else seems to use, but now I'm wondering if it's something important for this fandom. Hi! This is the annotated fanwork template, which you can find here Template:AnnotatedFanwork. Examples actually aren't recs, they're...examples! So sometimes it's really helpful to have more information about them than can be easily listed in a bulletpointed list. For example, Slow_Burn_(trope)#Fanwork_Examples uses them to make it obvious which works are complete/incomplete, how long the works are, and to describe how the slow burn trope is used in the fic. It can also simply make long lists of works easier to read, as long lists of bulletpoints can sometimes blur together.

In this case on this page I think it could be useful to use the annotated fanwork template, but you're right that it's weird that everything doesn't match, so I think removing the template makes sense. You're also right that it's weird that the only things in that one section are IT works! It would be nice if there were a fanart section with several fandoms represented, but I would probably cut back to just one IT example.

It looks like it might make a little sense if discussing a really important work which needs a lot of info. It just looks silly when it's only one fandom that gets that treatment and a lot of other stories are just on the bullet list. Maybe there should be some guidelines on the template page saying when to use it. Since two of the three seem to be deleted anyway and the other is fanart I'll rename the section as fanart and leave that one in the usual format.
