Jemma Simmons is an scientist agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and specializes in life sciences (both human and alien) for Phil Coulson's team.

Canon

Jemma Simmons is recruited by Phil Coulson, to join his team. She is a young genius and a bio-chemist, who excelled at Shield's Academy. Although they work well together, Jemma and her team mate Leo Fitz often bicker. When Fitz expresses romantic feelings for her, she points out that she only saw him as a friend.

In Season 2, Jemma takes a more active role in missions, even going undercover with Hydra's Science Division. She is swallowed by the Monolith and transported to an alien planet. She meets another human Will Daniels who explains that a terrifying creature lives on this planet and killed his entire team. Returning to Earth, Jemma is determined to go back and rescue Will. She is helped by Fitz, who still has feelings for her, and Jemma can't understand his reasoning for helping her save the other man she loves. Despite their efforts, Will cannot be saved as he has already been consumed by the creature, Hive. While working to defeat Hive, Jemma and Fitz begin a romantic relationship.

In Season 4, Jemma has a senior position in Shield, working with the organisation's new Director Jeffrey Mace. She shows herself capable of betraying her new boss to protect her friends and team mates, lying to protect Daisy Johnson. She is happy in her relationship with Fitz, as they plan to move in together.

In Season 5, Jemma is transported to a apocalyptic future, where the remnants of the human race are subjugated by the Kree. The leader of the Kree enslaves her, as Jemma's medical skills are valuable. Once reunited with Fitz, Jemma asks him to marry her. Soon after the team return to the present, they were married. When Jemma learns that Deke Shaw is her grandson, she believes that she and Fitz are invincible.
