Oliver Queen/Felicity Smoak is the pairing of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak from the TV show Arrow.

Canon

Fandom

Felicity first appeared in Season 1, Episode 3 "Lone Gunmen", and the fandom for the pairing has grown ever since. The pairing name for the ship is Olicity. The pairing finally became canon in the Season 3 premiere.

The actor that plays Oliver Queen, Stephen Amell, is a known shipper of Felicity/Oliver^[1]. The actress Emily Bett Rickards has also said she is on board for the pairing due to the gifs and the Hitler vid^[2].

A potted fern which is kept in the Arrow lair is known in fandom as the Olicity Fern, Love Fern or Yao Fern, and some fans believe it to be a metaphor for Felicity & Oliver’s relationship^[3]. The fern has inspired and features in both fanart and fanfiction. The fern was knocked off a bench and broken in episode 3x19, to the sadness of many fans of the plant. However, as a thank you for donating to a fundraiser, Arrow's showrunner Marc Guggenheim, posted a special video of the fern rising from the Lazarus Pit prior to the airing of the next episode.

In 2015, Olicity was number 4 in most reblogged ships as well as the only ship from the Arrowverse to make it on Tumblr^[4]. In 2016, Olicity made the list again, although it lost seventeen spots making Number 19 on a Top 20 list but still the only Arrowverse ship to make it^[5].

Common Tropes & Themes

Common genres for Olicity works are: Romance, Angst, Fluff, Friendship, Hurt/Comfort, and Humor.
Future Fics are quite popular, some take place in the future where Olicity is an already established relationship (this might include kidfic or they are married - pregnancy is mainly seen). Others focus on the Team Arrow expanding with Olicity at it's center (they are usually referred to as "Mom" and "Dad") with influences from DC Comics comicverse.
- A recent trend started in response of Season 2 episode^[6], where it was revealed that Oliver had gotten a woman pregnant at the age 22. Fans often believe or hope that it means the child will be revealed to be Connor Hawke, Oliver's son in the comicverse. Due to this belief, fans often write the Olicity reaction fics.
  - The name Connor was often used as the name for an Olicity son (example Demons), usually as a salute to Connor Hawke
- Many fans of Olicity and Roy Harper tend to create a headcanon that they are his parents, thus various works have been manipulated to show Roy calling Oliver "dad" and Felicity "mom", and him their son (Examples: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]).
Bruce Wayne, and recently Steve Rogers and Dick Grayson, have started appearing in Olicity fics in order to portray a new romantic interest of Felicity Smoak; this usually forces Oliver to admit his feelings for Felicity and for them to get together, also often portrays a jealous!Oliver (which was inspired by his canon jealously towards Barry Allen^[7]).
Alternate Universes are very popular with various different kinds of AUs already used - either canon-divergence AUs (Pre-Island AU and No Island AU for example) or a complete AU/Fusion, such as: Highschool AU & College AUs, Pirate AU, Historical AU, Soulmates AU, Kid AUs, Role Reversal AU, Coffee Shop AU, Historical AU, Actors AU, Movie AU (for example a Percy Jackson and the Olympians AU - Target Practice where Felicity is the daughter of Athena and Oliver is the son of Zeus), Vampire AU (example Bound by Blood series), Single Parent AU (Between the Shelves)
- One of the most common AUs is considered to be Oliver & Felicity meeting/knowing each other BEFORE he gets stranded on the island and then focusing on the after.
- Another one would be an Occupation Change AU, where usually Felicity (or Oliver) is in a different job than the one she is in the series (for example Rivers and Roads)
- Bratva AUs, usually uses the canon idea that Oliver is a Captain of Bratva and goes from there usually ignores the island/vigilante. Usually Felicity goes to him for help (example The Reluctant Queen by December_Daughter) or he kidnaps her (example Destiny Burns by JustAnother90sBaby)
- Marriage such as Accidental Marriage, Forced Marriage and Arranged Marriage (Example: Love Is A Kind Of Warfare) AUs also appear.
  - There's a fair share of Pretend Relationship stories that usually end in marriage.
- Vegas AUs - even before it was revealed that Felicity is from Vegas, Olicity fics dealing with Las Vegas common tropes such as Waking Up Married in Vegas. (Example: What happened in Vegas... by Jules_Ink)
Episode tags are common usually as missing scenes or filling in between the episodes with more Olicity goodness.
- Season tags are fairly common as well, where a drabble series is often used to focus on a certain season. Hiatuses for the series also inspires works that focus on certain spoilers revealed or how the author would like the series to go.
