Steve Rogers/Sam Wilson is the slash pairing of Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Sam Wilson (The Falcon) in the Marvel universe, especially the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Captain America 2.

Marvel Cinematic Universe

Canon

Steve was introduced to the MCU in Captain America: The First Avenger and then starred in The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Sam was not introduced until Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Both are set to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Fandom

Sam/Steve became very popular immediately after the release of The Winter Soldier, with most of the activity happening on tumblr and AO3. However, the burst of popularity quickly slowed, getting outcompeted and swallowed up by Bucky/Steve. On tumblr, a controversy arose over racism in the fandom and its effect on perceptions of Sam and the Sam/Steve ship.

Tropes & Fanon

  • Refrains: Two lines from the movie immediately went viral among Sam/Steve fans, being used as the basis for fic or fanart or gifsets - "On Your Left" and "I do what he does, only slower."
  • Threesomes: Generally with Bucky (here and here) or Natasha (here and here); sometimes even the foursome).
  • Sam is Everyone's Therapist: Generally Steve's therapist in pairing fic, sometimes also Bucky's, Natasha's or even other Avengers.
  • Up All Night to Get Bucky: Post-The Winter Soldier, Sam & Steve go on a roadtrip to rescue Bucky and fall in love.
