OfMonstersAndWerewolves is a multifandom fan, engaging with fandom through fic writing, amateur media analysis, Tumblr blogging, and Fanlore documentation.
Much of their interaction within fandom involves the exploration of being queer and disabled (mentally ill and (likely) neurodivergent), with many of their fics reflecting this. They predominantly write femslash and gen, though are open to other categories if an idea strikes them.
They ship several pairings, with their OTP - and their most written about fic wise - being Curious Archer.
Thier username is derived from their love of both fantasy-based werewolves and the band Of Monsters and Men. It is often shortened to OMAW.
Fannish History
The first fandom in which they were actively participating in online was Doctor Who. They later joined Tumblr, and began uploading fanworks (predominantly fics, though metas as well) to Ao3. Their smut fics are uploaded via the pseud OMAWSmutFics. and their metas via OMAWMeta.
Multiple fics have been written for Once Upon A Time, Doctor Who, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the Batwoman CW series, Stellar Firma, and Disney.
On writing AUs:
I absolutely love exploring characters in a way that tries to understand how and why they react to things, why they are who they are and how they go about dealing with things etc. It's quite interesting in AUs, because of cause the situations and worlds can sometimes be very different to how they grew up in canon, so the external factors (environmental, societal etc) can be very different. And I'm fascinated by how that might change a character, and I think trying to find that balance between the character we know and love from the show, and the character that's grown up in a different world with different circumstances and is therefore likely to be influenced by that, is super exciting to explore.[1]
Doctor Who
When the new series of the show began in 2005, OMAW was there to watch the first episode, Rose, and it changed their life forever.
Their favourite era of the show is the Moffat era, and the online DW spaces they inhabited for the most part had a substantial number of pro-Moffat fans. They've stated a number of times that bad-faith Moffat criticism is a pet peeve of theirs, and wrote a fic for Moffat Appreciation Day 2020.[2]
