Of Monsters and Men are an Icelandic folk/indie band. Though there are many who enjoy their music, as far as transformative works go, it would likely be seen as a microfandom. Fanworks related to the band are often influenced by a specific song or music video, and fanvids for various fandoms will sometimes use their songs.

Fandom

Reception

Their first album is generally considered to be their best. To some, this first album in particular seems to occupy a similiar place in the fandom sphere as Hozier and Florence + The Machine in terms of a nature-based, or even fae-based, aesthetic.

Fandom Connections

The band appeared in two episodes of Game of Thrones as musicians.[1]

Fanworks

Fanworks are relatively sparse, though fanvids, fanart, aesthetic moodboards and the occasional fanfic have arisen. Most fanworks involving OMAM in some way seem to focus on either:

  • The narratives, themes or aesthetics within the songs themselves
  • The narratives, themes or aesthetics within the music videos
  • A source of inspiration for fanworks of other fandoms.[2]

...rather than RPF of the band members.
