The earliest Matt/Clint fanfic on AO3 is dated 14 Apr 2015. The emergence of the pairing is presumably related to the Dumpster Bros phenomenon. The fandom favors the comics version of Clint Barton (especially Fraction Hawkeye) to the MCU version.
