Felix/Dimitri is the pairing of Prince Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd and Felix Hugo Fraldarius in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Canon

Felix and Dimitri are childhood friends, having known each other since infancy due to their fathers being old friends, as well as Felix's father being one of the King's knights. In their youth, Felix was very shy and prone to tears, and according to a piece of game dialogue he was so attached to Dimitri he would protest unless he could be with him all the time.[1] This all changed after their first battle, when Felix witnessed Dimitri snapping and slaughtering the enemy without mercy. Disgusted, he denounced Dimitri as "the boar prince" and distanced himself from him.

The two attend Garreg Mach's Officers Academy during the game, both in the Blue Lions class. During Part I, Felix is constantly sniping at Dimitri and telling him off, despite Dimitri's efforts to be kind to him. Part II depends on whether or not the player chose the Blue Lions:

  • In Azure Moon, Dimitri has reached his lowest point after the events of chapter 11 in the first part, having degenerated into an angry fallen prince hell-bent on destroying Edelgard and getting revenge for the fallen. Felix is horrified by this and asks Byleth to do something about it. Once Dimitri regains his sanity, Felix slowly begins to warm up to him.
  • In Verdant Wind, Dimitri dies at Gronder. If he's been recruited, Felix shows regret for not having been able to save him from himself.[2] If he was not, he dies at Gronder and Dimitri is saddened by it despite his insanity.
  • In Crimson Flower, if Felix is recruited and deployed in chapter 17, he'll tell Dimitri he has no qualms about killing him.

The main thread of conflict between the pair regardless is the Tragedy of Duscur, which Dimitri witnessed and which killed his father, plus Felix's brother Glenn and countless others. Dimitri is obsessed with avenging the dead, which Felix finds pathetic and distasteful.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

In the Azure Gleam path, Felix and Dimitri's dynamic is quite different due to the way events unfold. The more political nature compared to Azure Moon leads to Dimitri taking different courses of action and being crowned King much sooner. As Rodrigue steps down from his post as Duke Fraldarius to handle riskier matters, Felix willingly takes that position and is much more cordial to Dimitri, acting as his right hand man. However, he is not afraid to tell Dimitri off when he feels the King is being careless with his life and well-being; an example of this is after Dimitri is taken prisoner and is willing to die to save his people from antagonist Cornelia's attacks on the capitol, requiring the Blue Lions and the player to rescue him.

Their support chain also more openly displays Felix worrying about Dimitri's lack of self care, and Dimitri actually confiding in him about his hallucinations and nightmares. Because Dimitri does not succumb to his psychosis like in Azure Moon, the two are able to discuss this more easily. Felix is still his blunt self, but is much more eager to be Dimitri's emotional support and ends up dragging him to bed.

Fandom

While not as big of a Juggernaut ship as Felix/Sylvain and Dimitri/Byleth, Felix/Dimitri gained a huge following thanks to their emotional and complex backstory. The fact that they have a paired ending helps, even if said ending does mention Dimitri marrying at some point.[3] Most fans tend to ignore that if their stories take place in the post-game, though very few have suggested the possibility of a threesome.

The game offers a lot of dialogue to suggest there may be more than friendship between the two, especially on Felix's side. As Felix is canonically a tsundere[4], a good chunk of his dialogue and their support conversations make it easy for fans to read him as being at least a little in love with Dimitri. Even on the other routes, his regrets over Dimitri's demise suggest unresolved feelings. Felix's monastery dialogue before the battle of Shambala has him resolving to destroy the Agarthans so Dimitri can rest in peace.

Felix is the only character to have a complete set of alternate endings based on the route, along with a different title. His non-Azure Moon endings tend to be far more bittersweet or outright sad than his Azure Moon ones, which shippers attribute to the lack of Dimitri in his post-war life. [5][6]

The majority of fic is set either pre-timeskip or uses the Azure Moon route for obvious reasons.

The ship does have its opposition in fans who find the antagonistic and complicated dynamic "too unhealthy" for either or both characters. Felix fans feel like he deserves to be happy by breaking apart from Dimitri and his mental baggage, while Dimitri fans think Felix is abusive due to his caustic nature. Thankfully, the pairing has yet to incite any major controversy.

It is the most-requested ship on the Fire Emblem Three Houses kink meme.[7]

Three Hopes

When screenshots, video footage, and information began to circulate close to the release date of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Dimilix fans immediately noticed that the two shared a lot of screen time together, complete with dialogue and some suggestive moments. As the game came closer to dropping and the demo was released, the hype intensified.

Many Dimilix shippers declared themselves "fully fed" by the Azure Gleam path. Not only do they have a very emotionally intense support chain and lots of scenes together, but like in Three Houses they have unique meal and chore dialogue. They also get several "partner special" lines during battle, including one where Dimitri good-naturedly jokes back at Felix calling him "boar."

Tropes associated with the ship

Common conventions

  • Felix used to call Dimitri "Dima" when they were younger
  • Felix was in love with Dimitri pre-Duscur
  • Dimitri is the one to take Felix's virginity
  • Everyone they know can tell they love each other before they do, especially their fathers and/or their childhood friends Sylvain and Ingrid
  • "Destined friendship" between their bloodlines: Long-ago heroes Kyphon and Loog were life companions, as were Felix and Dimitri's fathers Rodrigue and Lambert
  • Felix or Dimitri is a trans male, allowing them to have a biological child.
  • Time travel and parallel universe shenanigans: learning they get together in the future, possible fates in store if they don't make up, non-Azure Moon Felix getting a chance to save Dimitri, etc
