While Eirika was initially well-liked by the fanbase, she became more divisive from the 2010s onward. People who liked her appreciated her kind and gentle nature along with her coming of age story, and her resolve even during the most difficult of times. Other fans, however, felt she was too naive, some coming down on her especially hard for being tricked by the Demon King into handing over the Sacred Stone of Renais and feeling the story didn't punish her nearly enough for it.
In response, her fans would point out that not only did the Demon King blatantly manipulate Eirika by using his Lyon persona (banking on her desperation to save her friend), but that Eirika's guilt over her mistake and the realization that Lyon was beyond saving were consequence enough.
