Endgame Poster Controversy
In the lead-up to Avengers: Endgame, the first poster for the film caused controversy. There was a fan backlash as Danai Gurira's name was missing from the credits, despite her character, Okoye, clearly appearing in the poster. All other characters who appeared in the poster received an actor credit.
she is the only black woman on that poster, the highest profile post-snappening wakandan, a firm fan favorite, and freaking actual DANAI GURIRA to boot. put some respect on her name, damn.[1]
Fans expressed their dissatisfaction on Twitter, with some editing the poster to include Danai's name, and in other cases replacing every Endgame character with Okoye.[2]. Marvel were quick to release an updated poster featuring Danai's name.
This controversy also encouraged discussions about Okoye's role in the upcoming film, as she had not appeared in any leaked artwork or toys.
Wakanda Forever
In Wakanda Forever, Okoye plays a strong supporting role, including attempting to protect Shuri and Ironheart from Talokan fighters, giving up her leadership role, but then defending Wakanda and gaining the Midnight Angel armor. She is sometimes paired with a Talokan fighter, Atuma, in fanworks[3].
