Fandom
For further details on the individual fandoms, go to their individual pages, listed above.
Due to the miscellaneous licencing agreements Marvel Comics made in the 1990s, there are as many fandoms as there are properties and so making global statements about the Marvel Studios fandom is difficult. However, with the advent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008, Marvel Studios had become a broad identifier - or target - for fan commentary.
Interaction with Fans
Criticism
- Lack of Female-Lead Roles: The Avengers film had only Natasha Romanoff and Maria Hill female characters. It wasn't until Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that a main cast was more balanced (3 males, 3 females for the 1st season). Agent Carter is the first female-led series.
- See the Natasha Romanova#But Not Black Widow about lack of Black Widow & other female character merchandise and lack of female fans being recognized.
- See Black Widow Movie about fans wanting a movie but their pleas went unanswered until 2021, after the character's death in Avengers: Endgame.
- Lack of Diversity in the works - most films star white male leads.
