The Incredible Hulk is a 2008 superhero film based on the Marvel comic book character, Bruce Banner aka the Hulk. It's the second film released as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The other movies in this shared universe are Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers. It is the second reboot attempt at a Hulk film, after The Hulk in 2003 starring Eric Bana as Bruce Banner.
It stars Edward Norton as Dr. Bruce Banner and Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, also starring William Hurt as General Ross and Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky. Tony Stark makes an appearance in a post-credits scene with General Ross about a "team" being put together. This of course hints at the eventual film The Avengers which is the next appearance Bruce/Hulk appears in, this time played by Mark Ruffalo after contract talks with Norton failed. Ruffalo is contracted to be Bruce for the next 6 films [1]
Fandom
Betty/Bruce is the popular het pairing in this fandom. Bruce/Tony is a common slash pairing that grew from the film but it wasn't until The Avengers film that it grew much more popular due to Tony's and Bruce's interaction onscreen. Bruce/Natasha and Clint/Bruce are also on the top list of pairings according to AO3 [2].
Fanworks
Most fanwork is based on the around 2012 film The Avengers due to the fanbase, however a lot of work is supported by what happened in The Incredible Hulk film.
