The Original Human Torch (aka Jim Hammond) is a fictional superhero who appears in Marvel Comics. He was created in 1939 by writer-artist Carl Burgos. The Torch is an android built by scientist Phineas Horton who possesses the ability to surround himself with fire and control flames. Jim Hammond was the world's first synthetic man due to his body being made of Horton Cells. He goes on to become a superhero and aids the Invaders in World War ll fighting against the Nazis. He is accompanied by his young side kick Thomas "Toro" Raymond.
After the introduction of the Fantastic Four where Johnny Storm took on the Human Torch alias, Jim is usually referred to as the Original Human Torch.
