Gotcha for Gaza is a fandom initiative to raise money for aid to the Gaza strip during the 2024 Palestinian genocide. It is a series of fundraisers all loosely under one umbrella, but organized separately in individual fandoms. The basic concept is that a fan donates a minimum amount to designated charities and in return they will be able to submit a prompt that will be fulfilled by creators who volunteered. It is very much like a traditional fandom auction, however, instead of participants bidding on a specific offering from a creator, what they receive in return for their donation would be more left up to chance. The Gotchas also usually have a very short turn around, to encourage as many donations as quickly as possible, and so the recipients do not have to wait long after their donation for their gifts.
The Gotcha for Gaza is a non-profit initiative within the fandom community, comprising ordinary individuals who come together to organize events and support donations to Gofundme or other organizations in Gaza.The initiatives range from supporting E-sims purchases, to aiding in the evacuation of entire families. They also offer specialized assistance in feminine hygiene, medication, chronic disease treatment, and caring for pets and animals.
When you contribute, just send your donation receipt to the organizers and specify the type of prompt you'd like in return, such as art, fanfics, cosplays, songs, and more. The nature of the prompt depends on the availability of the volunteer artists. The list of organizations to donate to is suggested by each fandom's organizers.
In essence, by participating, you're not only supporting a cause but also engaging with artists to create works during a humanitarian crisis.
