Zebediah Killgrave is a Marvel Comics supervillain also known as the Purple Man. He has powers of mind control.
Killgrave was first introduced as an enemy of Daredevil in Daredevil #4 (October 1964). An accident with a chemical caused his skin to turn purple and caused him to produce pheromones that compel others to obey his verbal commands. He was a recurring character in Daredevil through the 1970s and later appeared in the X-Man comics in the 1990s. He appeared again in the 2001 to 2004 series Alias, which introduces the character Jessica Jones and establishes a history between Jessica and Killgrave.
A version of the character appears in the first season of the Netflix MCU series Jessica Jones. This incarnation of the character is known only as Kilgrave (note the single 'L'; the name "Zebediah" is never used) and was born Kevin Thompson. Kilgrave does not have purple skin but retains an allusion to the Purple Man through his purple suits.
