Anthony Mackie/Sebastian Stan, also known as Stackie, is an RPF slash pairing inspired by the real life friendship of actors Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
History
Fan interest in the pairing originated in response to the 2014 press tour for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, during which Stan and Mackie were frequently paired up for interviews. Both actors have stated that they hardly worked together during filming, and it was during the press tour that their friendship kicked off. YouTube compilations of these interviews have hundreds of thousands or millions of views.[1][2] Their interviews together are marked by Mackie's jokes, and the dry humor it provokes from a usually reserved Stan. As noted in the December 2019 issue of Men's Health magazine, "[Anthony Mackie] is the Sebastian Stan whisperer, midwife to a charm that can be difficult to coax out."[3] Mackie is uninhibited about complimenting Stan's appearance, and their appearances together often contain innuendo and teasing comments to each other.
Perhaps in response to this chemistry, Marvel paired them up again for all subsequent press tours for which they appear in a film together, including Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War (alongside Black Panther actor Winston Duke, provoking the fan term Winstackie to describe the three of them), and Avengers: Endgame. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Sebastian Stan indicated it was their press tours that created the idea for a show featuring the two of them at Marvel Studios, which came to fruition with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+.[4] Stan and Mackie had often joked about wanting to do a remake of a classic buddy cop movie such as Bad Boys or 48 Hours.
Sebastian Stan has said that he's seen "Stackie" referenced online, although in what capacity is unknown.[5]
