Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Bulletin is a gen Leonard Nimoy newsletter.

Each issue runs about 8-12 pages. It is sometimes called Newsletter From Leonard Nimoy as well as Leonard Nimoy Notes.

The first page of many issues were printed on letterhead that said "From the desk of... LEONARD NIMOY."

It was preceded by Chatter Boxes.

January 1968

Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Bulletin January 1968 contains 2 pages.

first page of the January 1968 issue

It contains Nimoy's descriptions of MANY personal and professional activities, including being on a houseboat on Lake Shasta and catching fish with his family, recording the LP "The Two Sides of Leonard Nimoy," and appearing on the Carol Burnett Show (where he "put on his rig" for a skit), and being in parades. All of these activities are packed around his filming of Star Trek: TOS.

Nimoy describes giving The Nimoy Award to Nancyann Hiera on November 26, 1967. He also mentions Peggye Vickers stay in Los Angeles, writing that "her stay here has been thoroughly covered by her wonderful story in the last Journal."

He closes with:

Many of you have been publishing Chapter Bulletins, and although I may not acknowledge each of them personally, I do get to see them and am very delighted that you are putting out such wonderful material. My thanks and very best wishes to you and yours for '68. Live long and prosper.

Reactions and Reviews: January 1968

The first Newsletter From Leonard Nimoy was sent out in January. In it he tells of his recent travels and activities — personal appearances, recording the new Dot album, and appearances on various TV shows. With the Newsletter comes another page, a P.S. from Peggye. This gives details on the new album, and other club news, and announces a new publications schedule. The schedule includes a printed annual journal which replaces the semi-annual mimeographed ones. Next publication, a bulletin in March. [1]

March/April 1968

Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Bulletin March/April 1968

Reactions and Reviews: March/April 1968

The March-April newsletter features an article by Harlan Ellison. That's right, Harlan Ellison. On the problems of the TV writer. "Watch the credits....And remember the names of the writers who have done their work well. Honor them. And when the writers have been bad, then condemn them." Newsletter also has a report on the Boston "Contact" TV appearance, written by a LNNAF contest winner; mentions of VOICE, F-UN Con, and Bjo's zines; and ads for items available. The club received a telegram from Leonard Nimoy with news of ST's official renewal. LNNAF is now a year old, and current membership is over 1700. [2]

May 1968

Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Bulletin May 1968 contains 10 pages.

first page of the May 1968 issue

This issue also contains a lengthy segment by Peggye Vickers which reported more things of fannish interest, as well as a warning from Paramount about recording the show and taking telepics. She also includes a form for a contest to vote for Leonard Nimoy as a "Favorite Honorary President Contest" sponsored by The International Council of Fan Clubs.

Some topics were, as usual, Nimoy's extremely busy professional schedule which he called "rough." He mentions being in Boston and having to scrape a bit of time out to see his own parents.

Nimoy also writes extensively about fans supporting UNICEF and his appreciation of this support.

Another topic was his work at a stage play. From Nimoy:

March was spent almost entirely in the Chicago area, since I was booked into the Pheasant Run Playhouse to appear in "Visit To A Small Planet". Pheasant Run is approximately 40 miles outside of Chicago, and I made several trips into Chicago to do store appearances and radio and TV appearances and newspaper interviews. I had hoped that it would be a leisurely month since my work in the play required two and a half hours of my time in each evening with an extra performance on Wednesday afternoon and Saturdays. However, I discovered that rest was not to be the plan. My activities in connection with the play and with "Star Trek" and my albums kept me hopping from early morning 'til late hours at night.

Immediately after closing the play at the Pheasant Run Playhouse, I made a fast trip to Cleveland, again for store, TV and Radio appearances, as well as newspaper interviews. Finally returning to Los Angeles on March 26th, my birthday!

It has been my very great pleasure to meet thousands of fans during the course of these various trips. While at Pheasant Run, I was constantly surprised at the distances that people traveled to visit me and see the play. They came from all over the country-side, and some came from as far away as Canada! Nine-hundred and fifty miles; an eighteen hour trip by car! Of course, the Chicago fans turned out in great numbers to see the play, and many of them came back time and time again. I am avoiding me mentioning of specific names, since it would be impossible to list them all. It goes without saying however, that I am deeply grateful to all of them, and thoroughly enjoyed meeting each and everyone of them.

Nimoy addresses fanworks and submitted scripts:

I must discuss a difficult problem with you. So many of you have taken the time and effort to write "Star Trek" stories or scripts, and have sent them to me. While I think this is very worthwhile work, and much of the work is extremely creative, you must understand that it is absolutely impossible for me to read or evaluate this material. The studio has very firm rules about actors accepting scripts from anyone. They will allow scripts to be submitted only through authorized literary agents, since evidently their insurance companies will cancel their insurance if scripts are accepted through other channels. I realize that in many cases these scripts are not submitted with the intention of them being sold to "Star Trek" but in any case, it is absolutely impossible for me to accept and read them. Please understand.

Regarding Chapter Bulletins. They are wonderful and welcome, but it is equally impossible for me to acknowledge all of them, or to make a comment on all of them. I am aware that they are received in my office, and they do give me a very good indication of the activities of the various clubs. It would be impossible for me to do "Star Trek", record albums for Dot, and do the personal appearance trips I do) if I would have to devote as much time as would be necessary to read, evaluate and respond to all of this material.

From Peggye Vickers:

Quoted below is a letter I received from a member of the Legal Dept, of Paramount Pictures Corporation, the organization which films STAR TREK, in reply to my inquiry as to the possibility of our infringing on the copyright laws by taping the shows, taking pictures off the TV screen, etc.

"As you can appreciate, STAR TREK is an exceedingly valuable property and one in which we and NBC have invested a great deal of time, money and effort. Therefore, we must be constantly on guard to protect this important investment. (Paragraph) As you surmised, reproduction and sale of STAR TREK pictures, tapes or scripts, would be an infringement of our valuable copyright and/or merchandising rights in STAR TREK, as would any other commercialization of the characters, material or any other elements of this series. It is for this reason we must respectfully request that such reproduction or sale or any other commercialization be discontinued. (Paragraph) In addition, we cannot authorize any taping of programs for home use, since the right to reproduce such episodes of the STAR TREK series for home use is one which is restricted under the provisions of our NBC STAR TREK contract. (Paragraph) We do, however, greatly appreciate the interest that you and the members of the Leonard Nimoy National Association of Fans have shown in STAR TREK and we hope to be able to keep this outstanding series on the air for many years. Very truly yours, (Signed) Howard Barton, Assistant West Coast Counsel - Television"
The LNNAF can, therefore, no longer accept ads for the sale of tapes, scripts, pictures, STAR TREK fiction, or any other items which bear any connection with or reference to STAR TREK, its crew members or starship, and, in our case, most particularly Mr. Spock. On the other hand, such items as "Leonard Nimoy bookmarks", or pencils stamped "I am a Leonard Nimoy fan", or any such other similar items you might wish to offer thru the membership in order to raise money for UNICEF would, I am confident, be acceptable.

Despite the statement from Howard Barton stating that the LNNAF can no longer accept ads for "STAR TREK fiction, or any other items which bear any connection with or reference to STAR TREK, its crew members or starship, and, in our case, most particularly Mr. Spock.," Vickers immediately plugs some fanzines:

FAN-ZINE LOVERS!!! Two great zines crossed my desk which I want to highly recommend to all of you! The first one is ST-PHILE which contains a wealth of information and fantastic sketches about STAR TREK and its crew. Sample contents: The Original STAR TREK Idea (by Gene Roddenberry) and A Preliminary Study On Vulcan Cultural Evolution.

A MUST for all STAR TREK fans! At 50 cents per copy, order from Juanita Coulson .... The second one is EN GARDE and is chocked full of exciting reading matter about THE AVENGERS, past and present! Sample contents: Profiles on Diana Rigg & Patrick Macnee; You Have Just Been Murdered. Heartily recommended for AVENGER fans! Order from Richard Schultz... at 50 cents each. Help! RS is looking for the epilogues, the "off-into-the-sunset" scenes of the black-and-white shows and the finishes of the color shows as well, even if they didn't ride off into the sunset. He's also trying for the "Mrs. Peel, We're Needed" sequences from the beginning. Can anyone help supply him with information?

September 1968

Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Bulletin September 1968 contains 10 pages.

first page of the September 1968 issue

This issue contains the usual dizzying rundown of Nimoy's activities, both personal and professional, described by Nimoy himself. It also includes much about UNICEF.

He closes with:

A brief word about "Star Trek" this season. By the time you receive this you will probably have seen a few of the initial episodes.' I sincerely hope that they are everything you would like them to be. We here at the "Star Trek" company believe that the scripts are imaginative, energetic and freshly conceived, and hope that we shall be able to maintain a high level of quality and production

for the remainder of this season.

From Peggye Vickers:

The LNNAF has received many inquires about the Summer Journal. it was announced in the January Newsletter that, effective this year, the Summer & Winter Journals would be combined into one Yearbook, to be issued sometime in November. Re- member, there Hill be no Bulletin in November, but look for the Yearbook instead!

From Peggye Vickers:

Apologies are extended to the Vulcan Consulate for an unintentional error which appeared in the last Chatter Boxes issue. In the Chapter Action article, p . 2, it was mentioned that Vera Heminger "... keeps the gals in Vulcan Consulate active..." The Vulcan Consulate is not an LNNAF Chapter, however. Vera is a Chapter President who is also active in the Vulcan Consulate and it was not intended to imply that the Vulcan Consulate was her LNNAF Chapter.

From Peggye Vickers:

Contrary to what a fan magazine recently printed about LN's having had a motorcycle accident, there was no such accident. Fan magazines are often guilty of exaggerating incidents, so please do not believe everything you read in them!

From Peggye Vickers:

FAVORITE HONORARY PRESIDENT CONTEST which deadlined July 31 (voting coupons appeared in the May/June Newsletter) has produced another Leonard Nimoy victory! For the second year in a row, our Honorary President has won the title of Favorite Honorary President in Category #3 (clubs containing memberships of over 310 members) in the annual contest held by the Int’l Council of Fan Clubs! Our Star received 15,235 votes from LNNAF members — thanks to each one of you who voted for making this victory possible! The Award will be presented at the ICFC Convention to be held in New York City, Oct. 18-20, and because it will not be possible for our Favorite Honorary President to accept the Award in person, it will be accepted by the LNNAF Representative at the convention, Lyn Veryzer, who will also be in charge of the LNNAF exhibit there. Any members wishing to attend should request a registration form from ICFC President, Mrs. Jean L. Crocker...

From Peggye Vickers:

Leonard Nimoy has a new album, THE WAY I FEEL! Start to bombard your local record stores now with orders for this great LP...and—most importan t— call and write your radio stations with requests that they play selections from this exciting new album! Why not get a group together and visit your local radio station and, in person, ask the deejay to play Our Star's new disc! If you have already bought your copy, take it with you and insist he listen to your copy right then and there! Send postcards, letters and phone calls going to all the stations in your area—don't overlook the FM stations either—but concentrate on the Top-40-Survey-type stations...if they discover the Nimoy Sound, you have a better chance of spreading the sound! Request often, too! And if your station has a Request Line, keep phoning till your request is heard...let's get all the airplay we can...sock it to 'em!!! [3]

From Peggye Vickers:

HELP SAVE STAR TREK!!! This is to be a nationwide project & with YOUR help we can all make it a SPOCKADELIC SUCCESS!!! For and a long SASE you will receive a Bumper Sticker that says simply and to the point: SAVE STAR TREK: WRITE NBC. All profits to UNICEF. There's a limited supply available but will TELL HOW you can order more from the company that printed ours should we run short. So...ACT NOW!!! Tell the world to JOIN THE RACE AND KEEP THE BIG "E" IN SPACE! !! Write to Miss Linda Stanley.

March/April 1969

LNAF Bulletin January 1969

Reactions and Reviews: January 1969

The January publication is Leonard Nimoy's newsletter telling of his recent activities. I'd like to quote part of it here. He writes, "The production of Star Trek now enters a phase which is somewhat similar to that which occurred when our astronauts recently disappeared to the back side of the moon. Everyone sort of tenses up and waits until the reappearance takes place on the other side....Star Trek has been very good to me. It has given me the opportunity to play a marvelous character, and to expose my wares to millions of people. In a very special way, it has put me in a very real and personal touch with thousands of you wonderful people. I am an incurable optimist. I have always believed that everything will turn out for the best. Whether or not Star Trek continues, we have had three very exciting seasons, and have come a long way together. The future, I am sure, holds new and exciting projects. I will continue recording, and when the opportunity presents itself, will be playing what I hope will be a variety of interesting and meaningful characters in other feature films or television projects....To all of you from Mr. Spock, a Vulcan salute, a hint of a smile, and 'Live Long and Prosper.' From Leonard Nimoy, a deep and heartfelt 'Thanks.'"

With the newsletter comes the Nimoy Award announcement, other club news, and a poem from a typical fan (Plak-Tow's editor). [4]

This is the first time the club has materially presented the Nimoys with a gift; LN has asked that He contribute to UNICEF in his name instead of sending him something for his birthday or during the hol-idays. I'm sure the Nimoys will enjoy very much their new piece of furniture--our way of saying "thanks" for all the enjoymlent we've received from his performances and for all the help and friendship given to us through the LNNAF!")

She'll do an original portrait of Leonard from any photo...or just a portrait with any expression ...with a BIC pen & a 11x14 board. These are $1 each plus postage. You get a pretty darned good picture, the dollars go where it's needed...and she? A bang out of sketching! Oh. She'll draw anything else from a clear photograph for a mere 2.50 plus postage."

May/June 1969

Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Bulletin was published in May/June 1969 and contains 6 pages.

first page of the May/June 1969 issue

Nimoy comments on yet another of his Emmy nominations, on the end of Star Trek, about support from fans, about his house and family, and about his new role as Tom Paris on Mission Impossible.

Peggye Vickers adds information and comments about Nimoy's new role as Tom Paris, as well as other promotional tidbits.

This issue contains an essay by Vickers titled "A Funny (Wonderful) Thing Happened on the way to May. I Saw Leonard Nimoy in April!" The focus is a description of her trip to see Nimoy at an appearance in Houston, Texas, April 25-26.

There are also several fan letters describing their personal fannish experiences. One is from Kathy Bushman.

From Nimoy:

As the days pass and patterns evolve, I think about some of the things that I would like you to be aware of in connection with what has been happening in my life. As I expected it would be, it is a time for sorting out ideas and finding out, in a new way, who Leonard Nimoy is. There are, and have been certain projects which have been presented to me since the demise of "Star Trek" became a fact. Some of these, I have already declined, and some are in the process of discussion and negotiation. In a very interesting way, the things I have turned down, and the things I have considered doing, give me an indication of who I am as an artist.

Among other things, we are currently having discussions with Universal Studios. They are primarily interested in television projects, since that is the bulk of their product. I am not totally in favor of, or against doing television projects, but am trying very hard to see to it that the projects have merit. This is possible to a certain extent, but if I sign a contract with a studio, there may well be a day when I have to do a script for them which is not exactly what I would chose to do if I had my way. I would much prefer to take each script on its own merits and make my decisions on a show by show basis, but this may not be entirely possible. I am sure that there will be things to do in the future which I will be very proud of, and some not quite so desirable. The fact is, that this was the case in doing "Star Trek". Not every script was one that I was delighted with.

I am sure that I will make mistakes. It will not always be possible for me to know in advance, exactly what to do about certain projects which fall into a gray area. I might be caught in a weak moment, and chose to do something which I shall regret later. I am also sure that there will be projects in the future, of which I will be very proud. There are a couple motion picture scripts about which we are having conversations, and which I would very much like to do. These may very well materialize, but since there is no starting date they may be some time off in the future. Meanwhile, I ask that my fans and friends, and I would assume that they are one and the same, will bear with me, be patient, and understand that I am trying very hard to do my best, and no one can ask anymore than that. In a strange way I am reminded of a line from a song which I recorded. The song was, "Both Sides Now", and the line is, "But now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads, they say I’ve changed, well, something’s lost and something’s gained in living everyday".

Nimoy wrote:

I am amazed at the tenacity of the "Star Trek" fans. Every day in the mail come letters asking about the possibility of a renewal for "Star Trek", with a possibility of CBS or ABC picking up the show. Wherever I travel, it seems that Star Trek fans refuse to accept the fact that the show is over. I, too, some times wonder when or whether Star Trek could exist again.

However, in all fairness to myself, and to those of you wonderful, loyal Star Trek fans in whose breast hope springs eternal, I must tell you this: the Star Trek sets have been disassembled, the stages are in use for other shows, the production personnel are at work on other series, and the actors, like myself, are now involved in other projects. It would be unrealistic of me, and unfair, to hold out any hope for the revitalization of the series.

In a recent conversation with Gene Roddenberry, he said: 'Perhaps five years from now the industry and the country will begin to talk about Star Trek in a loving remembered sense.' I agree with him. I think it will take some time for many people to be aware of what the series really was, and what it really meant to so many people.

first page of the July/August 1969

Nimoy wrote: "So far, working on "Mission: Impossible" has been a ball! The people are marvelous, the production is excellent, and the acting is challenging Hope you all will be watching in the Fall."

Good morning, Mr. Phelps. The man you are looking at is LEONARD NIMOY, a very talented actor who currently co-stars as Mr. Spock on the famous NBC-TV series, "STAR TREK". Your mission, Jim, should you decide to accept it, is to alert all members of the Leonard Nimoy National Association of Fans to the exciting news that Leonard Nimoy has recently signed to portray the continuing character of "Paris" on the top-rated CBS-TV series, "MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE," and will appear in all episodes beginning with the new Fall season. As always, if you or any of your IM Force is caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This page will self-destruct in 5 seconds.

EMMY FUND: Jeanie Fadala of New York City has suggested that the LNNAF again create an Emmy Fund as our way of honoring Leonard Nimoy with our own special "Emmy" Award. All contributions to this Fund will be sent to UNICEF in LN's name and contributions must be received on or before Sept. 30, 1969 by the LNNAF UNICEF Chairman, Mrs. Gloria Lillibridge [address redacted]. Because of the crisis in Biafra at this time, the Emmy Fund will specifically be designated as for Biafran relief when the contributions are sent to UNICEF in Leonard Nimoy’s name.

Leonard Nimoy has been nominated for an Emmy Award for three consecutive years, which is no surprise to any LN fan. The nominations in themselves are quite an honor. But the LNNAF would like to do something "special” beyond the Emmy Fund to recognise the fact that we all feel he should have WON those Emmy Awards. A booklet will be compiled composed of letters from LNNAF members and will be sent to Leonard Nimoy as our own tribute to him. He is very interested in and moved by fans' comments and we feel letters of praise from LNNAF members would mean more to him than an inanimate trophy type of award. This is YOUR opportunity to tell him why you admire him as an actor (for, if you didn’t, you wouldn’t be in the LNNAF, right?). Please limit your letter to one 8x11 page and write on one side of the page only. Letters should be sent to LNNAF Headquarters by Sept. 30, 1969. Please mark "Emmy Letter" on your envelope! ALL members are urged to participate in this project — your only expense is the price of postage! (An after-thought: Please fold your letter as few times as possible.)

To the fans of Leonard Nimoy: Leonard Nimoy is very talented, handsome and sexy as all of you know. He is a great actor and an artist indeed. It was mainly his acting and sex appeal that made the character, Spock, popular and Star Trek a popular show that has stayed on for three years. I see in the ads, all of you who have been writing fanzines, selling scripts, etc. But I hope you realize that Leonard Nimoy, OUR HERO, is the one who made all this possible. So please, when honoring ST I think you should honor Leonard just the same and maybe even more, for he was the one who breathed life in these scripts. I hope you will follow his career and be with him all the way. He is an excellent actor who picks his projects with an artistic ability. He just doesn’t do anything, he really wants to do something worth his ability which is a great ability. After all, acting is an art and in the field of acting, the greatest artist of all is LEONARD NIMOY! This also includes writing songs and singing, of course!! So I hope you will give him all your support, he sure deserves it. -- from a fan of Leonard Nimoy, Carol

first page of the Sept/Oct 1969 issue

From Nimoy:

Greetings. This Newsletter will probably arrive later than it should, and the fault is entirely mine. Since I communicated last, I have been heavily involved in the shooting of "Mission: Impossible," opening a pet shop, and recording a new album for Dot Records!

[...]

My new Dot Records album is scheduled for release on September 15th. The title is: "The New World of Leonard Nimoy". Included are such songs as "Proud Mary", "Put A Little Love In lour Heart", "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Tom", "Let It Be Me", "I Walk The Line", "Everybody's Talkin'", and several new songs which I have high hopes for.

On August 9th, we opened "Leonard Nimoy's PET PAD" in Canoga Park in the San Fernando Valley. The results were remarkable. There was a tremendous turnout for opening day, and I would imagine that photographs of the event will be appearing in various LNNAF publications of the future as well as in various fan magazines. We are stocked with a wide variety of fascinating livestock. Including several monkeys, various kinds of reptiles, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, several varieties of birds and a good selection of tropical fish. Having worked in a pet shop approximately ten years ago, I've had a very active interest in pets and the pet business. The store is something of a hobby for me, and I periodically drop in to help out with whatever needs to be done.

As you can see, the summer has been extremely active, and that is the way I like it! Personal appearances have been somewhat limited because of lack of time. Perhaps in the future I'll be able to expand my activities again in that area. Meanwhile, the days are full with gratifying and creative work.

From Peggye Vickers:

I'm sure I don't have to remind you how important it is that we bug radio stations to play the LN SOUND. Number five in a series of Nimoy Music, "The New World of Leonard Nimoy," should be ordered if your local store doesn't have it in stock — you want want to be without this exciting new albumon Dot Records!!!

From a fan, and a response by Vickers:

Is there anything that intelligent fan clubbers can do to fight the miserable stuff some of these lousy pulp magazines print? Ordinarily I never touch the crumby things, but I was looking for the articles about LN for my scrapbook. These things are so cheaply and badly written that I often throw the articles away and keep just the pictures...

While I always urge members to write to the fan magazines asking for articles about our Honorary President, I also want to urge you all to write whenever you feel a complaint is in order. If the magazines get enough letters from us fans asking for a higher caliber of material on LN, perhaps we’ll see some results of our efforts!

From a fan:

To the fans of STAR TREK: STAR TREK is a success because it combined the imagination and the ability of many different people. As a whole, it was the effort of teamwork between the artists of acting, directing, writing and all the unseen backstage production. Each single episode became great as the effort and ability to create, combined with the script and the special talents of the STAR TREK crew. The Enterprise functioned because each man and woman did his or her job. Without any of them the ship would have yielded to her enemies. The same is true for STAR TREK. No one actor, writer or producer is STAR TREK. It is a team effort and to honor the series is to honor all the people who worked to make it great. — Susan Kotar

Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Bulletin was published in March/April 1970 and contains 14 pages.

first page of the March/April 1970 issue

This issue contains much about the play, "Camelot" and the film "Queen for a Day."

It also contains a long Mission Impossible/Star Trek satirical story in script form.

"Guidelines for the LNNAF Chapter":

First and foremost, remember LEONARD NIMOY is our star, NOT Mr, Spock or Paris, Leonard. Nimoy has given realism to these roles, but they would not exist were it not for his portrayal. It is important to keep in mind that a Leonard Nimoy club a Leonard Nimoy. A Star Trek fan has a Spock or Star Trek club. The latter runs on devotion to the character and imagination the character evokes. Such a club must then place Leonard Nimoy second and limit the club to the one subject. This makes all interesting fiction club, and is the reason I am president of two clubs. One for Leonard Nimoy and every professional contribution he makes, the other is Star Trek oriented and strictly fiction. Some clubs make a transition by carrying material on both the actor and the character. Do not, forget our purpose as fan club presidents. When we form a club for Leonard Nimoy, we then, as presidents pledge ourselves to represent him and his current interests, roles, records, and interviews. Our personal attitudes and manner in which material is printed effects the attitudes and thinking of our members. We influence them. Therefore, the fan club president carries more responsibility than he or she realizes. It is vital to recognize this, accept it, and remember where our loyalty lies, I'm here to help in anyway I can, I will not say, "do this, do that” or the other thing. Each club has its own character, personality; the special flavor of its president. Some things work for some clubs and not for others. We must have a few basic guidelines, however. The rest we will figure out together as time and suggestions are considered.

Some reference should be made to Leonard Nimoy in the club name to advertise, without question, who you represent. It 1$ not mandatory.

You should have at least 5 members to start a club. You then register the club with me, giving me the details of the kind of club you plan, if you plan to have a newsletter, bulletin, journal, or a yearbook and the dues you wish to charge your members. I will then help you map out the details and when we both feel you are ready for affiliation, it will be automatic. Some clubs develop more quickly than others.

President and Vice-President MUST be members of the LNNAF, (all staff members SHOULD be LNNAF members and also as many members as possible!) I ask that the names and addresses of each member of your club be sent to me with a rotation that will indicate if the member is a member of the LNNAF as well. (They do not have to be, but it is what we as presidents are working for.") Keep me up to date on all new members, etc.

Please send 4 copies of each issue you put out to me with one acknowledgement form. I will acknowledge for Teresa Victor (LN's Gal Friday) and Louise Stange (President of the LNNAF), to whom I will mail their copies. The form should be stamped self-addressed postcard. Do NOT send me lengthy and details forms pages long.

All pertinent club information should be sent to me (Publication schedule and of what type, special projects, charges, and anything you feel would best acquaint me with the type of club you have.)

These guidelines apply to any type of Leonard Nimoy club. The fact that you may have a club that doesn't put out publications does not mean you be exempt form being registered or affiliated. I still have all the information I have requested.

New clubs will be given a special "welcome to the fold" by each chapter president. Good will builds memberships in all chapters bringing the publicity Leonard Nimoy should and will receive -- and THAT'S where it's AT!

Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Bulletin was published in Aug 1970 and contains 10 pages. This issue contains an illo by Claire Mason.

first page of the August 1970 issue, Roberta Reno: it was personally selected by Leonard Nimoy, Teresa Victor (Nimoy's "Gal Friday"), and Louise Stange

Topics in this issue: the upcoming LNAF Yearbook, the movie "Assault on the Wayne," UNICEF, Mission: Impossible.

From a fan:

HELP! I am desparate! If anyone can get me any of Leonard Nimoy's albums except for THE TOUCH OF L.N., let me know right away! Write now before I faint for lack of LN! I will also buy good pictures of Paris.

From Louise Stange:

VITALLY IMPORTANT!!! Pleae be sure to keep your letters going to Leonard Nimoy c/o CBS-TV!! The network keeps track of how many letters each star receives, and we want them to know who our fave is!

Also from Stange:

This publication is our pre—yearbook bulletin. We are going to do something a little different in that we are not only going to let you know some of the latest Leonard Nimoy news, but give you a preview of the upcoming yearbook, and let you know what you can do to help make the 69/70 yearbook the extra-special endeavor we all want it to be! That's right! 69/7O! We are going to combine two years into one yearbook —- the best of both years. This is a very large undertaking, and with the cooperation of all LNNAFers, it will be just that — the best of both years - the very best! Because there was no yearbook in 1969, we are going to have the 1970 yearbook early. This is a deviation from the regular schedule, however, to combine two years into one yearbook is a gigantic project, therefore requiring more preparation, time, and above all, a sincere group effort!

March/April 1971

Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Bulletin March/April 1971 contains 12 pages.

front page of the March/April 1971 issue
from the March/April 1971 issue, where do the fans live? Not in Alaska!

Some topic discussed: Mission: Impossible, Catlow, UNICEF, various telethons, and Nimoy's praise for the recent yearbook.

Some other items:

  • "Meet the Members," short bios of Jatona P. Walker, Susan Christopher, and Margaret Knowles
  • Being an LN Fan Is, by Carmen Carter
  • a list of the places where the LNAF fans live by percentage

From a fan:

WANTED TO BUY - Absolutely anything about STAR TREK and/or its stars. Including pics, art, clips, zines, scripts, records — ANYTHING! Especially, want ANY clips!

From Nimoy:

This letter is late and it's my fault.

Frankly, I've been postponing writing this letter because there have been so many major changes coming up. It was my hope that I would be able to give you some important information, rather than simply fill you in on secondary details.

By now, most of you have probably heard that I will not be appearing on "Mission: Impossible" in the coming season. This event has taken place at my request, and the studio and network have graciously agreed to let me go. I have felt that the initial challenge of doing the various characters on "Mission" has run itself out. The nature of the show, and the number of characters, have made it increasingly difficult to do much in the way of meaningful performances. It was a lot of fun, and the cast and production people were excellent to work with. Now I would like to move on to other things. I guess I'm just a guy who likes change.

June 1971

Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans Bulletin June 1971 contains 14 pages.

front page of the June 1971 issue

There is a description of the house that the Nimoys are staying in in Spain during the filming of Catlow, as well as a lengthy "Chapter Action" report by S. Cornelie ("Sam") Cole.

Some of our English members apparently aren't too familiar with the postage terms used by the USA mail service, so I'd like to take this opportunity to clarify one in particular! On the yearbooks that went overseas, the words "Printed Matter - Return Requested" are on the

front of the envelope.... the return requested wording seems to have caused a bit of confusion. "The Return Requested" means that should the person to whom the parcel is addressed have moved and not given me his latest and correct address, that the post office will send the parcel back to me with the correct and new address written on it so that I may send it out again to the proper address. A few members have, thinking that the "Return Requested" was meant for them to return the yearbook itself after they have read it, sent it back to me. This is very thoughtful and upon receiving them, I've immediately sent them back to the owners! Please always remember that ANYTHING you receive from the club is YOURS TO KEEP! You have paid your dues and are entitled to all the publications etc. and they are your property! The term "Address Correction Requested" means much the same thing, and this is the term that will be used in the future.

LNAF Member, Jennifer Guttridge, has reported to me from England that the BBC has not, as yet, shown many of the existing STAR TREK episodes! Though I've hoard that the BEC took off the series, and then replaced it again with reruns, due to the large volume of mail (sounds familiar, doesn't it US fans!). However as of now, the following episodes have not been shown by the BBC at all: Alternative Factor, Spook's Brain, And the Children Shall Lead, Is There in Truth No Beauty?, Spectre of the Gun, For the World is Hollow, and I Have Touched the Sky, The Tholian Web, Plato's Stepchildren, The Empath, Elaan of Troyius, Whom Gods Destroy, The Mark of Gideon, That Which Survives, The Lights of Zetar, The Savage Curtain, and Turnabout Intruder (which was the last episode filmed, in January of 1969). As you can see, there are quite a few, so when writing your NEXT letter to the BBC, be sure to make note to them of this fact. And as was suggested to US fans when we were in the process of saving STAR TREK, DO NOT mention you are a member of a fan club as individual lettors mean much more! There are a number of exceptional episodes in this group, especially Is There in Truth No Beauty?, and also the episode called The Enterprise Incident which is another that was omitted from BBC viewings thus far. Those two particular episodes are excellent featuring Mr* Spook, and all of them are certainly worth seeing, so keep these in mind! Thanks Jennifer for the information!
